Was he a good one?
Wapo really loved the guy.
yeah, great guy, devastated the CIA’s clandestine services in an over-reaction to scandals.... thought intel work could be done almost entirely without human sources....
Yikes, what did he do to piss off the Clintons?
Part of Jimmy Carter’s wrecking crew, IIRC.

I met Admiral Turner once when I was a midshipman (1975). Personable, but a Democrat Perfumed Prince who later hosed up the CIA, opposed Republican administrations, and advocated for steep cuts in defense spending. RIP.
p
Turner was an absolute fool and failure as held of the CIA. He literally decommissioned HUMINT (Human Intelligence) operatives around the world, esp. in Europe at the height of the Soviet military build-up (Look up B-Team report on the Soviet military build-up, about 1976, John Collins and Gen. Daniel Graham (my classmate in the mid-70’s).
Turner was comrade Sen. Frank Church’s “hitman” on the intelligence services, following up the devastation that the Church Committee hearings/reports did to the FBI and CIA, among other groups.
Why do liberal fools live so long? They do so much damage to our country. His early death would have saved us from the Ayatollahs of Iran, the Sandinistas of Nicaragua, and the FMLN of El Salvador, plus the PLO mini-state in Lebanon.
He was the “Ted Kennedy” of the CIA, driving that organization off a bridge into deep waters, a disaster from which it has never recovered.
RIP.
