WASHINGTON -- The FBI is investigating whether a top Russian banker with ties to the Kremlin illegally funneled money to the National Rifle Association to help Donald Trump win the presidency, two sources familiar with the matter have told McClatchy.
FBI counterintelligence investigators have focused on the activities of Alexander Torshin, the deputy governor of Russia’s central bank who is known for his close relationships with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and the NRA, the sources said.
It is illegal to use foreign money to influence federal elections.
It’s unclear how long the Torshin inquiry has been ongoing, but the news comes as Justice Department Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s sweeping investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 election, including whether the Kremlin colluded with Trump’s campaign, has been heating up.
All of the sources spoke on condition of anonymity because Mueller’s investigation is confidential and mostly involves classified information.
A spokesman for Mueller’s office declined comment.

I got to the part about ‘classified’ information and tea spewed out my nose.
To the FBI, ‘classified’ means make lots of copies and forward to the NYT.

This is an attempt by the FBI to kill two birds with one stone. LOL
Mueller is running an employment service for anti-Trump attorneys and beraucrats at the expense of the public. There is no oversight or control. He will keep this going indefinitely at any pretext.
This is so juicy for the media because they DESPISE the National Rifle Association, and want every ordinary citizen’s guns confiscated. If there is a way to “get” Trump and the NRA simultaneously, they will tell any lie to accomplish it.
This is good for another 6 months of investigations. Trey Gowdy will be all over it. “We must interview all the witnesses.”
I read a piece yesterday that detailed how some guy had evidence that Planned Parenhood was pouring money derived from the sale of aborted baby parts into Hillarys campaign.
Since Trump is an advocate of a stronger military, you’d think the Russians would want to help Hillary get elected.
