Pretty unbelievable. My preacher's wife is from Brazil, she's a new citizen and she is always telling people that Americans can't possibly understand what real poverty is without seeing it for themselves. In her opinion our ghettoes are luxury most of the world's population will never experience, no matter how many trillions of dollars the rest of the world (US mostly) dumps on them.
Back in the '80s I worked for an international rent-a-rig outfit as a programmer. I was one of three Americans out of a team of 23. During lunch, it was always fascinating to listen to some of their stories, which almost invariably ended with, "You people don't know how lucky you are."
