~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: United States Army Soldier Systems Center, Natick, Massachusetts

natick2

The United States Army Soldier Systems Center (SSC) is a military research complex and installation in Natick, Massachusetts charged by the U.S. Department of Defense with the research and development (including fielding and sustainment) of food, clothing, shelters, airdrop systems, and other servicemember support items for the U.S. military.

natick3

The SSC includes facilities designed to research and test both materials (textiles, combat rations), advanced technologies and human performance (human research volunteers) under simulated environmental extremes (altitude, heat, cold, wind, etc.).

The requirement for improved combat rations has led to groundbreaking developments in the field of food irradiation and freeze-drying techniques. Improved body armor, new military parachuting technology, and enhanced military garments designed for a variety of environments are all ongoing efforts.

natick4

The objectives of the SSC are:

Develop new technology.

Invest in the continuous development and provide quality of life for our workforce.

Advance, assess and apply emerging technology.

Create a collaborative environment between government, academia and industry on behalf of the Soldier.

natick5

Some of the units at the SSC include the Installation Management Command, the Clothing and Textile Research Facility, the Natick Army Labs, the Camouflage Evaluation Facility or the Thermal and Flame Laboratory.

Good grief! I hope you get some rain soon, too. I’d sure hate to hear that your area has any more horrible fires during a hot dry season.

Guess it’s about time to try to sleep. I don’t hear the wind howling any more, so maybe it’s going to be quiet. It’ll be cold a couple of days and then warm back up.

That ol’ roller coaster just keeps moving. Darn it! See ya tomorrow for our quiz. Oh, yay! ;)

They’re happy lil roadies, aren’t they? LOL

Feeling better now that you’ve had a yummy supper? Did you get a tasty desert to go with it or maybe a milkshake?

I ended up at Taco Bell...I enjoyed. And I got an orange ice...really a treat for me.

Now I’m off to soak and read a book on my iPad.

Rest well when you get there.

Haven’t heard about any fires so far and we’re grateful for that. We’d like to keep it that way too.

Glad your wind seems to have calmed down. It’s picking up here now, which is why the house suddenly cooled off.

Darn that roller coaster. It’s NOT a thrill ride, that’s for sure!

Good night and sleep well. Catch ya tomorrow.

Just a post-n-go to say Thank you Lauren for posting todays thread.

Maybe on a warmer day I’d take this trip, but brrrr, I don’t like the cold.
Besides, I’ve got things to do in the warm house.
Thankfully, the arrival of some snow has delayed until early tomorrow. However, they’re saying it should stop by noonish.

Y’all be safe and have fun.
Thank you to our AWESOME Military, our Allies, and their families for all you do.

Duuuuuude!
Who left the fridge open!
It's 22....wind chill 10.
That's very un-Texaslike!
At least we don't have a blizzard!
Not that I wouldn't mind the moisture.
We're dry as a bone!
Hope all y'all have a Terrific Tuesday!
Stay warm, safe and dry!
((((hugs))))

They left the fridge open here, too, LUV! It's 16 degrees this afternoon and thankfully there's no wind with it.

But there's snow. It's not all that deep but enough to make things somewhat pretty - - as long as one is inside looking out. LOL

Beachie, once it arrives in your neck o' the woods, it'll be there a while. This is a slooooooow-moving system.

Hey, LUV, I checked the Dale Hollow cam a few minutes ago to see how much snow they got. What a shock to see who was on the nest ......

Glutzilla!
