I never let the political ambiance affect what I do, including move. I moved from Los Angeles to Salem, Oregon. Oregon in general is far left; Salem not so much. I have found good hearted Conservative friends here...and it is beautiful. Must like rain.
36 counties in Oregon; 5 smallest are blue and they control the state. The rest of Oregon is very conservative. Four seasons, drop dead gorgeous country, and southern OR has award winning medical.
Interesting to hear your take on Salem not being far left. Usually the state capitals in leftist states are the most left of all cities, followed by the college towns.
Politics is a huge reason for leaving California. It is not just high taxes and high cost of living motivating me to flee.
You can live in the most conservative city in America, but if it is in a commie liberal state, you are still oppressed by the progressive state laws, still subject to the high taxes, and still dominated by what liberals want.
I cant take that anymore. I cant live in a liberal state, even if my city is extremely conservative. I at least need a battleground state where liberals dont always get what they want.
