I have been buying my rental houses in Wakulla county Florida. It is rural, but close to major medical facilities about thirty minutes (depending on location) away in Tallahassee. (Tallahassee, Leon, hasn’t elected a Republican since reconstruction, but Wakulla is very conservative, small and full of nice people.)
I was born and raised in Tallahassee. If I had a transferable skill at my age....I’d make a beeline to Wakulla county.
