Also, we haven’t had a single Democrat elected in the county for over 10 years now.

I love mountains, so no way I could live in a state where the highest point is a hill 345 feet above sea level.

My wife and I hiked up 1,200 feet in the hills behind us yesterday. Past the first ridge and we don’t see any signs of human life. And this is in the San Fran South Bay area!

If you still want 4 seasons - then I recommend southern Indiana or southern Ohio. Lot of small, quiet conservative towns, get snow but not lake effect, lot of wild life, only a few hours drive to a population center.

12 hours drive will get you Chicago, New York, Philly, DC, Cincy, Columbus, Indianapolis, Cleveland (next best theater district outside Broadway), Pittsburgh etc for quick weekend excursions to major museums, shopping, shows or whatever.

I will add to my earlier comment about considering the proximity of kids and family you may want to visit, another consideration.

Don’t try to relocate anywhere where you have not spent a reasonable amount of time visiting. If you spend the money to relocate, you don’t want to turn around and do it all over again — you need to like your destination in reality, not just in theory.

Indianapolis, Indiana used to be a great place to live in the 1980s. It even had a Republican mayor. But it might have changed for the worse since then. Many once nice communities for families are no longer safe places.

When I lived in the White Mountains of Arizona, they kept the roads plowed...until the money ran out. Then the plows stopped running. Things were fine until early February, then I learned how to chain up really fast.

I always thought that was the practical method of governance possible. Budget and spend what you have, then stop spending.

This is a great area. Stayed at the Hassayampa while there - wife bought me a bathrobe there too. It was nice watching movies on the courthouse lawn and eating dinner at The Palace. The only downside - a little too much California Money...lol

Interesting to hear your take on Salem not being far left. Usually the state capitals in leftist states are the most left of all cities, followed by the college towns.
