Where to Move? Time to Retire and Find a New Life.
01.15.18 | chickensoup

The kids are grown and gone. I live in the Northeast. I am looking to move to a small city or town or village. I am healthy, happy and adaptable.

I would prefer a place that has a conservative base. Every location on the lists of best places to move are leftist s***holes.

I am hoping for a place with four seasons, albeit, not as severe as the northeast. Elevations are fine, beauty is important, and so is the need of good, friendly people.

Any ideas?

Live west of Austin in the Hill Country and you’re close to very good health care, and less than four hours away from world-class health care in Houston. Pretty country and lakes as well, and still-reasonable real estate costs. No state income taxes, but property taxes are high.

As a panhandle Floridian, I’ve always regarded Tampa as the Baltimore of the south.

First, don’t quote me as having said “new live, because I didn’t. Secondly, I do not appreciate your cute little stupid statement of “get a life”.
Dim wit

I live in Ann Arbor, MI, a small college town very right of center. Come on by! It almost never gets below 40 degrees here. Low property taxes. More churches per capita than anywhere else in the US. I could go on and on. You’d love it. ;)

We are looking at retiring in Chattanooga.

Low taxes and lots of outdoor activities for hubby and cute store’s and things to do for me. Plus only 2 hours from Atlanta.

Central Oklahoma has good laws and a great bunch of people, but they do get some fearsome tornadoes...

laplata: Any ideas for CO or WY. Would you recommend Durango?

>><<

Thanks for requesting my input, beaversmom.

Yes, I’d recommend Durango or about any place on the Western Slope (western Colorado). We need all the conservatives we can get.

The Western Slope is the most conservative part of Colo., other than a few places like Colo. Springs (The Springs).

My daughter and her family live in southwest Wyoming in a town of about 14,000 called Evanston. It is nice and like most of Wyoming, very conservative. Salt Lake City, Utah, with all the amenities of a big city, is about an hour away..

36 counties in Oregon; 5 smallest are blue and they control the state. The rest of Oregon is very conservative. Four seasons, drop dead gorgeous country, and southern OR has award winning medical.

Things are GREAT here in California. Come on out! Lots of sunshine, ocean, redwood trees, majestic mountains, and fresh vegetables year 'round. The oranges are to die for here, too.

There might be a few downsides, but they are all minor. You won't even notice them. Honest. No foolin'.

Must be a different Ann Arbor Michigan than this one:

I’ll echo LiveFreeOrDie2001 and heartily recommend South Carolina.

I moved from Louisville, KY to Aiken County, SC in Sept of 2003 and haven’t looked back. Google Aiken, SC or Aiken County, SC and you’ll see what I mean.

Super friendly people, vast majority Republican and conservative, mild winters, can get pretty hot in the summer, gorgeous downtown, golf addict’s dream,

Three hours from the mountains of North Caolina/Tennessee, three hours from the beach (Hilton Head, Edisto Island, etc), three hours from Atlanta. Small town (40K population) atmosphere.

Fantastic place to live. Can’t say enough good about it. FReep mail me if you have further questions.
