The latest data for the week ending Jan. 6 suggest the season may be peaking right now, the CDCs director, Dr. Brenda Fitzgerald, told reporters Friday. But she warned that many more people will be infected before the season is over.
Theres a difference between an active flu season when a large number of people get sick and a severe season, when the numbers of people hospitalized for flu or who die from the infection are unusually high.
It can be hard to tell in real time where a flu season will fall on the severity scale, because sometimes reports of influenza hospitalization and deaths especially deaths among children lag.
That said, this year is starting to look like a severe season, and maybe more severe than last year, which was also bad, said Dr. Dan Jernigan, head of CDCs influenza division.
Theres lots of flu in lots of places, he said.
So far, Jernigan said, this years season doesnt appear to be quite as bad as 2014-15.
The influenza A virus H3N2 has caused the lions share of the illness in most parts of the country this year.
But recently theres been an uptick in activity by another influenza A virus, H1N1, Jernigan said, warning that even if the season appears to have peaked, flu viruses will circulate for weeks to come and people should continue to take precautions against getting infected.
Jernigan said that people over the age of 65 are being hospitalized for flu this season more than any other population. Even people age 50 to 64 are being hospitalized in high numbers.

The kids wont let me put the thieves oil or oregano into the diffuser. They say it makes them throw up, nonsense. But I can say that when you use it on the soles of the feet, you dont need any carrier oil. I tried it on my chest and it burned a bit, so you do need a carrier oil for use on the chest. But on the soles of the feet, after they have lain down for the night, you can apply the drops right into the skin.
They’ve got those little critters for sale on Amazon-

Current vaccine might be 10% effective and is a waste. Wife got one and I passed - both got same cold (fairly severe but not like actual Flu) - plus I heard a new version of the Flu was circulating in places. Always a crap shoot and I pass on the shots more often than not over the last 25 years and never had what i would call real Flu in that period - I usually get more “colds” and other ailments, that hit harder and last longer in years I have the shot.
The original estimate was 15% now it’s changed to 10%, CDC got this years vaccine totally wrong.
There is a TAMIFLU warning, it has killed 1 child.
Depending on your health and age, NEVER take more than the single dose vaccine, the 1 for seniors and health compromised is a TRIPPLE dose..which is DUMB as they are already health compromised, and reactions are higher to the Triple or Double dose Flu vaccine.
Hmmm. Well I’m only 70 so I’ll have to watch out for when I get to the senior citizen stage. ;-)
Yup.
You'll be there pretty soon, sonny.
Prayers for your wife and you that good health returns quickly
Thanks. Would do for myself too. Maybe with another oil for kids
Just wondering how you and your wife are doing with the flu....hoping things are better!
I think I’ve got bronchitis now and we both still have the flu. Her doctor tested her today and told her she should he all through by Friday. If I’m not better by tomorrow afternoon I’m going back to the doctor. Thanks for your concern. How about you?
I got out of bed for first day (in 5) yesterday. Cough is a problem...the breathing exercise helps, but so does some Robitusson...and Oregano oil, and other herbal stuff like Elderberry and Ossiccillium sp...I’m throwing everything at it I can. Lucky no doc visit yet. Rest seems to be the thing. Trying to prevent the husband from getting it now. Hope you’re on the mend soon.
Back at ya’ Sweetie.
Apparently they were not.
Never hit us.
For some reason.
