ANALYSIS: Republican strategists say Democrats virtually certain to win House in 2018
ABC ^ | Jan. 14, 2018 | Jonathan Karl

Republican strategists have turned decidedly pessimistic about their prospects for the 2018 midterm elections. Prominent Republicans are now saying privately that Democrats are virtually certain to win control of the House of Representatives.

As one senior Republican on Capitol Hill told ABC News, “If the election were held today, the House would be gone. Fortunately, the election is not today.”

Another prominent Republican strategist working on the midterm elections went further, telling ABC News point-blank that Republicans will lose the House and that this prospect unlikely to change.

“The only question is whether Democrats win narrowly by picking up 25 seats or whether it is a blowout of more than 35 seats,” the strategist told me.

Allies of President Donald Trump are convinced the president will quickly face impeachment hearings if Democrats take control of the House.

One Republican close to Trump predicted that not only will there be impeachment hearings but that the prospects for the president would be grim.

You guys need to be prepared when Democrats take back the House.

Paul Ryan is a weak leader. Why Mitt Romney chose Ryan as VP over Tim Pawlenty is beyond me.

If Democrats take back control of the House in 2018, they will do everything to go after Trump. Period.

Trump Postpones ‘The Fake News Awards’ Until Next Week

(CNSNews.com) – President Donald Trump still plans to hold what he called “the most dishonest and corrupt media awards of the year,” but instead of it taking place this past Monday, the White House will host it next week.

Trump tweeted Sunday that “the Fake News Awards” will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 17.

“The Fake News Awards, those going to the most corrupt & biased of the Mainstream Media, will be presented to the losers on Wednesday, January 17th, rather than this coming Monday. The interest in, and importance of, these awards is far greater than anyone could have anticipated!” the president tweeted.

“Subjects will cover Dishonesty & Bad Reporting in various categories from the Fake News Media,” Trump tweeted last week.

As CNSNews.com previously reported, the White House has been mum on the details about the awards, such as how many awards will be given, where it will take place, whether there will be other judges, an audience, and whether it will be televised.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said at the time, “I certainly don’t want to spoil anything, but my guess is that there are quite a few individuals that could be up for those awards.”

When asked whether the press corps will be in attendance, Sanders said, “We’ll certainly keep you posted. It might be hard for him to present trophies if you guys aren’t there.”

Because of the GOP tax bill, we will lose seats.

That's what happens when you become so blinded by vengeance on your enemies (SALT deduction for "blue states") that you end up punishing your friends as collateral damage. (TEA partiers et al in "purple" swing states).

Law of unintended consequences.

So Ed Gillespie lost his bid to be RINO governor of Virginia right? Well on this forum I spoke in defense of Virginians who refused to vote for any RINO ever and was sorely rebuked for it by those who hold to the “lesser of two evils” doctrine.”

Our situation here in NC is similar. The Christian conservatives, or enough anyway, refused to vote for Pat McCrory though enthusiastically supporting Trump, so committing an act of treason against the cause, so I am told, by default advancing the liberal agenda here in NC.

There is a “lesser-of-two-evils” doctrine on this forum, regardless of what you call it or how you characterize it. There is a “no-RINOS-ever-again” doctrine also on this forum no matter what you call it or whether you like it or not.

I am inclined toward the never RINOS idea only because of my age. I am sick of hearing “lesser -of-two” and it has never worked. On the other hand, “punishing republicans” as a strategy to “teach a lesson” to such idiots as the GOP strikes me as pitiably naïve.

What do you think GibsonGuy? Which way should we go? If “never-RINO” means we lose the senate or house or both, is that the way to go? If keeping the Senate and the house means we must continue to compromise with RINOs is that what we must do? And more importantly, do you play a Gibson guitar, and how can we hear you play?

I suspect the cause has been lost before we realized it. As Gen Jumpin’ Jim Gaven says in “A Bridge Too Far”, “It was Nijmegen.”

Off year elections for congress usually have a lower turnout than presidential years

democrats were absolutely caught by surprise in 2016

They will do anything to get rid of Trump

They are completely energized and will turn out in 2016 type numbers

Not a good omen for 2016

They think they have it all planned out, then Trump happened, Trump was not part of the plan. Well their plan anyways.

we need to do our part to get Trump people who can support MAGA. Bannon was suppose to help here, but he revealed himself.

Pick our races carefully and pick one “hail mary” I think Senator Mendez of NJ is a good hail marry, the guy is a pedophile, use it. He is a crook, use it. No more Mr. Nice Republican, we need fighters, street fighters who are not afraid of their own shadows, who do not believe in “appeasing” the left wing media. Screw the media, screw the democrats and instead of playing nice with them, do what Trump is doing and destroy them.

2018 is going to interesting, the Democrats are already acting like they have it all in the bag and will win the house and senate. Let them think that, that was how they lost in 2016.

What a bunch of weak sucks. The GOPe just loves to preemptively surrender. I hope that the Republican base primaries-out every one of those squishes.

Republicans aren’t actually concerned enough to get off their donkeys, work together and actually start getting things done though.

Actually, you are not only wrong, you are very wrong.

The Republicans worked very hard to develop consensus and pass a comprehensive tax bill.

I know, some of you just weren’t paying attention to the constant barrage of tax bill news that lasted about a month, but it actually did happen

No need to be insulting FRiend.

Yes, we all know about the Tax Bill passing 11 months to the day after President Trump was inaugurated.

It's what didn't pass in the preceding 11 months that I was referring to.

Results and implementing the president's agenda are what count - especially with voters.

One major bill per year won't keep the rats out.
