Well after reading any article in my morning paper, it seems Manning’s Felony Convictions are not a bar to running for the U.S. Senate. Although at the local and state level they would be.
Has anyone with a previous felony conviction ever been elected to a Federal office, like the Senate or House????????
I could not find either post so I added it's name to both threads' keywords.
Did it legally change it's name? Someone needs to verify that. If not it violated the law when it placed it's name on the document.
well this should give an indication of how f-ed up the good folk of Maryland have become.
Alcee Hastings (D) Florida was impeached and removed from his judgeship for bribery, and was subsequently elected to the House, where he sits to this day.
Please stop referring to Mr. Manning as “it”.
You should not join in the delusion that he is anything other than a man.
That I knew about, but was he convicted of any Felony? Although as I remember on Impeachment doesn’t that in itself preclude someone from ever seeking or holding Federal Office again?
Disqualification from holding an office of trust or profit under the United States is a penalty which the Senate may impose at its discretion.
However, membership in Congress is not an office “under the United States”, it is granted by the People, or until 1916 in the case of the Senate, by the States.
Don’t take this lightly. The way the people in Maryland vote, this could be serious. It doesn’t matter that Chelsey Manning is a mixed up soul to people who vote the way they do. He/she could well win in Maryland.
AFAIK conviction of a felony does nor disqualify in the US senate.
