Someone "pushed the wrong button" to send out a false alert to warn of an inbound ballistic missile alarm to Hawaiians, according to Hawaii Gov. David Ige.
The incident occurred during an employee shift change, Ige added while speaking with CNN.
Cellphones, television, and radio stations received the morning emergency alert, which claimed it was not a drill.
Local officials and the U.S. Pacific Command have since confirmed that the emergency alert was sent out in error to residents of the island chain, which recently tested out a Cold War-era nuclear warning siren in response to North Korea's missile and nuclear weapons programs.
Lawmakers and Ige are seeking answers for what exactly happened so that the mistake will not be repeated.
"While I am thankful this mornings alert was a false alarm, the public must have confidence in our emergency alert system. I am working to get to the bottom of this so we can prevent an error of this type in the future," Ige said in a statement...

And the consequences for incompetence will be...
.....nothing.
We need a failsafe Staples button.
Democrat incompetence on parade
Good thing it wasn’t The Button.
I guess Trump did not believe it. It only takes a few seconds to retaliate.
Yes, but it was entirely understandable... After all, it was a shift change.
This fits right in with the overall incompetence that is rampant in West Coast states and the bureaucracies that govern them. They play fast and loose every day with your lives.

What was done by pushing the wrong button can easily be done by some computer hacker in NoKo. Has that ever been considered?
Launch a missile and follow it up with the message that it is all a false alarm. Nice.
Wrong button.....doesn’t that make all of you feel so safe? Hi I am from the gov and am here to screw with you.
Push the button Max! Great Race movie.
That seems very unlikely.
If nothing was happening why was any button being pushed? Is the everything is ok button right next to the incoming missile button?
There is more to this.
So, there’s no:
- “Are you sure” 2nd button??
- 2nd person to verify??
- No back-up verification of any kind??
Bull-oney.
Probably the guy who pushed it was illiterate. Can’t read the “Don’t Push Unless....” warning on it.
It was Not an ooops, it was Leftist mind games.

Seems like it was a coordinated effort to blame Trump
Well, I imagine CNN will report this as Trump playing around with nuclear weapons.
Maybe it was al Qaeda doing a test run to see what would happen.
OR... Like a Beavis finger to a flame effect.
Yep, if ANY mouse-click was to require a second confirmation click, it’s that one.
Have to see how fast all the blame-CINC tweets came out after it was declared an oops.
