Sen. Lindsey Graham, one of those in the meeting Thursday where President Trump reportedly called some developing nations shhole countries, used similar language himself during the last big immigration debate, calling Mexico and other Latin American nations hellholes.
The South Carolina Republican was arguing for the need for stiffer enforcement to stop a new wave of illegal immigrants, blaming the jobs magnet for enticing millions of people to flee their home countries for the U.S.
The people coming across the southern border live in hellholes. They dont like that. They want to come here. Our problem is we cant have everybody in the world who lives in a hellhole come to America, Mr. Graham said during a 2013 debate in the Judiciary Committee on an immigration bill he co-authored.
The senator continued: There are 11 million people coming through the southern border cause they come from countries where they cant find work, and life is miserable. So it seems to me that if you can control who gets a job youve gone a long way in controlling illegal immigration. Because as long as the jobs are available in America you cant build a fence high enough to stop people.
Then-Sen. Jeff Sessions, now Mr. Trumps attorney general, stepped in to correct his colleague.
Its not a hellhole, it has great things going on in Mexico, were proud of the people in Mexico, Mr. Sessions said.

Trump’s term, if he even said it, is more accurate. These nations are not developing into anything of value. They are devolving. We need to be honest about this. You don’t cure cancer by denying it exists.
Well hell, then. Let’s string him up, impeach him and coat his face with cheeto-flavored spackle.
But you have to admit....on the hell-hole comparison scale of one to ten...Mexico doesn’t go much past a three. You got tens of thousands of Americans who cross the border each weekend and stay at resort hotels. Now, I would consider Peru and Honduras to be higher up on the hell-hole scale (maybe a six or seven).
The biggest problem the world has is SEX. Its making too many people, so many that there isn’t enough work out there for them all. The poorer the country the more sex they have. What else is there to do? The more people reproduce the heavier the burden becomes. If the population of the world dropped 50%, there would be less of a problem. Instead we’ll probably increase by 50%. I do not consider that a healthy situation, we will eventually burst at the seams and discover we’ve become a $#!thole.
So, ah, which is worse, a hell-hole or a sh*t-hole?
Enquiring minds want to know!
I think New York City and Washington DC are s—tholes. At least, that’s my experience coupled with published stories. Los Angeles might be one too. San Francisco is not a s—thole, but more like an outhouse. Chicago would need to up their game to become a s—thole.
Mr. trump.. tell 'em to "kiss your a$$."
Mr. trump.. tell 'em to "kiss your a$$."
Apparently they do have a record of that one Lindsey. You really are pathetic without your rump ranger McCain at your side.
“You got tens of thousands of Americans who cross the border each weekend and stay at resort hotels. “
Well just today, the State Department put Americans on notice that it isn’t really safe to visit Mexico. Actually, it’s been a narco state for decades. I just don’t know why any American would go there and spend his money knowing that Mexico is a Remora that has been attached to American’s a$$ forever, sucking the economic life out of this country.
Whether Trump actually called these places “sh**holes” or not, they are. There is no other reason for their citizens to flee in droves to other countries, leaving behind their families, friends, all that they ever knew, unless their nations were such “sh**holes” that they could no longer bear to live there.
Yep. One of the most pervasive tactics of the left is to selectively recall the past. That doesn’t work nearly so well now that there is a record of everything at everyone’s fingertips. Somewhere somebody will be proving they are lying hypocrites by the next news cycle.
Doesn’t keep them still doing it though. Feinstein yesterday denied saying she was pressured to release Fusion GPS transcript. When the reporter replied “But there is a recording of you saying it” she simply denied the recording existed!
bump for later
I remember reading something probably 20 years ago that made the argument that they aren’t “developing nations”, they are “never to be developed nations.”
I’d rather be in s*** than in h***
All of South Carolina’s Congressional delegation works for the Cheap Labor Express and wants to turn the USA into a hellhole.
