Back in 1951 I was on an aircraft carrier on its way to Korea. When we were three days away from Japan I came onto a weather deck and asked another guy, “What’s that smell?”
He said, “That’s Japan.”
It smelled like shit and sandalwood.
“I fully expected India to “win”. I was talking once to a gentleman who had journeyed to India to talk to someone there about sourcing some products. He said the taxi took him to his destination, and as he opened the door, he was about to step into a pile of human excrement. He pulled his foot back in and closed the door and told the driver to take him back to the airport. He decided he did not want to do business in such a sh*thole country.”
Imagine the stench on a Sunday morning in Calcutta when its 120 degrees and 100% humidity! Why you’d think you were in Chicago city hall.
Even tho there’s shit everywhere we can’t call them shitholes? Defecation holes? Ohhh, that’s better!
OK, so can we call them “shithole countries” NOW? It’d be accurate, after all.
BTW, all that President Trump did was say what everyone else has been saying for YEARS or DECADES. I routinely refer to various countries as “shithole, Turd World countries,” and I’ve never had anyone admonish me (well, my wife did when we had some company and there were some little kids in the next room) about the accuracy of the statement.

Nothing. It's just another third-world shithole despite a concerted effort to convince us otherwise. They have to put up signs in the restrooms in companies in America that import a lot of indians to tell them not to shit on the floor. The British managed to paint a thin veneer of civilization on india after a couple of hundred years of occupation, but it's still nothing but a third-world shithole with a coat of fading paint on it.
As I said, we could smell Japan three days before landfall.
What I forgot to mention was on my first liberty in Japan back in 1951, I was walking down a street in Yokasuka (pronounced “Yo-koska”, and saw a guy casually taking a leak. No one seemed to notice. A guy taking a leak on a city street raised no comment.
Except when a drunken American sailor did the same. Then crowds would gather and point. I saw this, didn’t do it myself.
Then there was Panama. The bars had running water in front of the bar itself. Drunks would pee into the running water. One day it was 103 and raining. I never was charmed by Hispanic culture.

Although there are many open defecators in India, it is public urination which rises to the level of their National Sport, surpassing Cricket or Soccer.

After reading just part of the comments,will there be a forthcoming update on this map? Maybe they could have enlargements on some of the smaller areas where there is a problem not shown by an overall view of that country. There’s few places there with some BIG problems. When a whole country is a dark color,that’s some serious ——!
Trying to determine which of these Turd-World sh!tholes is the worst is a real crapshoot…
