He only did so after he became president and had told his base hundreds of time that "the wall" would be built, that it wouldn't be a mere "fence," and that technology wouldn't suffice either. No, no, this had to be a real, physical wall.
Or not. Apparently, Trump is now happy with a fence and technological security as well.
Is this what his "nationalist-populist" base voted for?

If you read what I posted earlier I said the border would be a great place for military train. As far as fencing off Texans from their water rights it will never happen unless your willing to give Mexico the Rio Grande river, is that what your wanting?

That it is impossible to build a wall of the kind he wants along the entire border. They have to use several methods to address the different scenarios along the border, and the existing laws have to be enforced.
I like that he operates like a businessman - listening to opinions of others, considers their advice and then makes an informed decision accordingly.

IF there are areas where there is no ‘physical wall’, that rea will be the magnet for the illegals to cross. American landowners will not be happy.
On the other hand-—maybe if there are strategic ‘funnels’ where they can focus the illegal crossings, they can catch them easier & send them back from 10,000 feet on a plane.
There are many ranchers who have been under siege with the illegals for years. They don’t deserve to be heavily targeted in the future.

Yes, and anybody who has doubts should check with the Israelis. They have a double fence, with a paved road in between. After they implemented the project, illegal entries across that border fell to almost zero.
Moreover, the Border Patrol guys will tell you that a fence is better than a wall, because a fence gives you the chance to monitor closely what is happening on the other side, whereas a wall tends to block your view.
