Supreme Court appears likely to approve Ohio’s voter purging

WASHINGTON The U.S. Supreme Court seemed inclined Wednesday to rule for Ohio in a legal fight over the state's method for removing people from the list of registered voters.
Civil rights groups say it discourages minority turnout. But a lawyer for the state told the court that the process helps keep voter registration lists accurate and up to date. And a bare majority of the justices seemed to agree with the state officials.
"They want to protect the voter roll from people that have moved, and they're voting in the wrong district," said Anthony Kennedy, often the deciding vote when the court is closely divided. "What we're talking about are the best tools to implement that purpose."
At issue is a method Ohio uses to identify people who have moved and are no longer eligible to vote. The state sends notices to those who fail to cast a ballot during a two-year period. People who do not respond and don't vote over the next four years, including in two more federal elections, are dropped from the list of registered voters.
The court's liberal justices seemed to side with the challengers.
"You have a right not to vote," said Sonia Sotomayor.
But Chief Justice John Roberts said a failure to vote or respond to a notice tells the state something about whether a voter has moved.
The Justice Department supported the challengers in the early stages of the court fight, but the Trump administration switched sides and argued Wednesday for the state.
Solicitor General Noel Francisco said Ohio's system strikes a balance between "on the one hand dramatically increasing the number of voters on the voter rolls but, on the other, giving states the flexibility they need to manage the issues that arise when you have over-inflated voter rolls."

The sad part is that four justices dissented.

Oops. Not decided yet.
The sad part is that four justices seem ready to rule against the state of Ohio.

Is anyone more racist than a liberal? Their “reasoning” always seems to be that it is just too much to ask of a minority to do what every other citizen must do through the year - produce a valid government issued picture id.
Somehow, obtaining, carrying and displaying a valid id is just a bridge too far for minorities - they just are not capable to performing that task.

That has nothing to do with it. ID Laws makes it harder to cheat and that is why they fight them so hard.

"You have a right not to vote," said Sonia Sotomayor.Yes, and if you haven't moved, and choose to vote again after a period of six or more years of not doing so, you can re-register. Ooh - how onerous! [eyeroll]

Most states make you surrender your driver’s license when you move to another state.
Those licenses get mailed back to the state that isued them.
Cannot those returned licenses be used to also clean up the voter rolls?
Meanwhile, I wrote a long plan to clean up the voter rolls.

Guess they cut-out the meat-n-potatoes, as it were: “...in accordance to State Law.”.
Though, if anyone immediately asked about 2nd A. Rights I think she’d strangle herself... as her sphincter tightened up.
Voting isn’t ‘free’ and, as in ANY contest, the process should be consistent and the outcome verifiable.

The last presidential election, 2016, was the first time in decades Ohio's voter rolls where purged. Husted, the Secretary of State implemented this plan specifically to clean up the rolls in Hamilton, Franklin, Lucas and particularly Cuyahoga Counties where decade after decade the dead rose to cast their ballots for Democrats. Often disguised as minorities carted around in buses.
What do John. D. Rockefeller, Henry Flagler, Warren Harding, Mark Hanna, George Voinovich and William McKinley have in common?
They are all prominent Cleveland Republicans that have voted Democrat every year since their deaths.
Notice that Ohio went to Obama easy twice. Yet they voted Republican in every state office except Sherrod Brown for over a decade. Since they purged the rolls over the last six years, Trump won Ohio EASY. By more than 8% points. Way outside the margin of fraud.

STEALING ELECTIONS WITH COMPUTERS and
Technology Cybercrimes, watch Bloomberg's
Digital Defense November 3, 2016 (19:40).
To better understand
"THE MASTER KEY" to stealing elections with computers, watch:
I'LL
NEVER TRUST ANOTHER COMPUTER COUNTED ELECTION AGAIN !
Things have changed!
Bennie Smith, a Memphis computer programmer, discovered HOW this is done through a
" ... a GEMS tabulatorfor Global Election Management Systemwhich is a personal computer installed with Diebold software that sits in a windowless room in the countys election headquarters.
The tabulator is the brains of the system.
It monitors the voting machines, sorts out which machines have delivered data and which havent, and tallies the results.
As voting machines check in and their votes are included in the official count, each machines status turns green on the GEMS master panel.
A red light means the upload has failed.
At the end of Memphiss election night in October 2015, there was no indication from the technician running Shelby Countys GEMS tabulator that any voting machine hadnt checked in or that any votes had gone missing, according to election commission e-mails obtained by Bloomberg Businessweek.
Yet as county technicians followed up on the evidence from Smiths poll-tape photo, they discovered more votes that never made it into the election night count, all from precincts with large concentrations of black voters. ... "
Diebold Election Systems changed its name in 2006 to
Premier Election Solutions.
Bloomberg's article titled
How to Protect Against Election Day Hacking gives more proof of this by Memphis computer programmer Bennie Smith.
"... The method Smith used to catch the problem should be a playbook for any candidate, party or concerned citizen worried about the accurate tallying of their votes:Smith snapped some pictures of printed voting tallies (known as poll tapes) at a high-turnout polling location and then compared the results there to the electronic tabulations.
This is a very good, if labor-intensive, way to check to ensure that votes are being counted correctly.
Smith has created a proof-of-concept program called Fraction Magic, showing how corrupt officials could tamper with GEMS to manipulate election outcomes.
