You can lie to State police to your hearts content before being read your rights. Even after, because defense lawyers are skilled at “excusing” those discrepancies/not even jail time in most cases.

Federal LEO's is a different story which is pure totalitarian stuff because "lines" can be blurred and interpreted in favor of a government that has the capacity to print their own currency, i.e. infinite amount of resources/tyrannical at the core in the wrong hands.

You can be detained, and charged, if the police even think (or want to think) you’re lying. The charges don’t have to stick, but usually a misdemeanor at minimum.
