Matthew Spencer Petersen has withdrawn from consideration for a federal judgeship, the Associated Press confirmed on Monday. Petersen, who was nominated by President Donald Trump to serve on the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, made a name for himself last week thanks to his remarkably poor performance before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Overall Trump’s judge picks have been outstanding. Don’t let one blip ruin it the trend.
Agree 100%, about Slate......but....lets focus on the substance of the headline....
Did this guy truly withdraw himself from consideration?
Did he have a humiliating Senate hearing?
Yes.
I would also like to know who recommended this person, to POTUS.
Who vetted this turkey? That was embarrassing.

Aimee Teegarden: Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can’t locate the U. S. on a world map. Why do you think this is?
Caitlin Upton: I personally believe that U. S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some people out there in our nation don’t have maps and, uh, I believe that our education, like such as in South Africa and, uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and I believe that they shouldour education over here in the U. S. should help the U. S., uh, or, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq, and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future, for our children.
There have been a couple of blips. There's this guy. There's Brett Talley who "forgot" to include the fact that he was married to a White House staffer on his disclosure paperwork. Thomas Farr apparently lied to the Judiciary Committee about work on past political campaigns. There is no doubt that the vast majority of Trump's picks will make excellent judges. But it's the ones like these that make the President look bad.
from wikipedia article on elena kagan, dont remember any of this during her love fest nomination hearing:
“On January 5, 2009, President-elect Barack Obama announced he would nominate Kagan to be Solicitor General.[43][44] Before this appointment she had never argued a case before any court.[45]”
My take, too.
Probably a nice enough guy to review a will or some articles of incorporation, but not the caliber needed in that job, regardless of ideology.
I would love to know.
Did you watch the hearing? I’m betting you didn’t.
Did you watch the hearing - yes or no.
He was embarrassing!!
“His train wreck of a hearing was reported on extensively by numerous sources.”
Any sources other than fake news?
Video can be used as fake news, too.
Saw about 3 minutes of one senator grilling him. It was totally embarrassing. Felt sorry for him.
He also was rated as qualified for the DC Court job by the ABA.
So at least 3 people screwed up here: The ABA. And woever recommended him to Trump. And the man himself, because he should have turned down the nomination ... because as Dirty Harry said, "A man's just GOT to know his limitations".
Okay - tit for tat? Now sure that dog will hunt.
maybe a friend of a friend of a friend???
He really was. I watched with my mouth open, thinking somebody punked the president with this guy.
I saw this myself many times so this time it’s not fake news. The President needs to rid of whoever recommended this guy. It was an embarrassment to watch.
Ditto.
“I saw this myself many times so this time its not fake news. The President needs to rid of whoever recommended this guy. It was an embarrassment to watch.”
A malicious leftard ambushed someone who wasn’t expecting it.
It’s not hard at all for a scumbag to make someone look bad.
Bear in mind that one doesn’t have to be a lawyer at all to be a Supreme Court justice.
