Chaffetz: Time for AG Sessions to Step Down
Newsmax ^ | 16 Dec 2017 | Sandy Fitzgerald

Former House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz, Saturday called for Attorney General Jeff Sessions to be removed from office, saying that may be a cure for the "deep systemic problems" in the Department of Justice.

"It pains me to say this a little bit [but] I don't think the attorney general is up to the job he's doing," Chaffetz, now a contributor for Fox News, told the "Fox and Friends Saturday" program.

Sessions "had to remove himself from everything" involving President Donald Trump and that led to the appointment of Robert Mueller as special investigator in the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, said Chaffetz.

He also criticized the attorney general for not taking on a more active role in digging up information about several controversial figures at the DOJ, including Agent Peter Strzok, who was removed from the investigation after a series of anti-Trump text messages between him and a fellow agent were discovered.

Chaffetz said that Sessions also had told him that he would not prosecute Bryan Pagliano, Hillary Clinton's former chief tech staffer, who had refused a Congressional subpoena to testify about the 2016 Democratic nominee's use of a private email server.

Sessions had also refused to make documents on the Fast and Furious scandal public following the death of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, Chaffetz said.

Jeff Sessions is no more going to voluntarily step down as AG, than Robert Mueller is going to voluntarily give up the post of Special Counsel. Each would have to be fired from their specific job, and as neither Jeff Sessions NOR Rod Rosenstein is prepared to pull the trigger, Mueller stays until, like Ken Starr, he proves to be entirely ineffectual at getting to the real issues.

By the way, what is happening in that “lone gunman” massacre in Los Vegas? There are some threads running through that which do not add up.

And here I thought Chaffetz had a brain.

After what will be happening, Jeff Sessions will go into the history books as one of the greatest Attorneys General of all time. Probably THE greatest.

I think maybe Jason ought to look in the mirror and ask himself why he’s been such a worthless POS.

Trump needed a bulldog at AG and got a chihuahua. If Sessions had any balls left he’d resign.

I still don’t understand why Trump diff not put Rudy into the AG role. Just saying.

I think it's pretty clear that Rudy didn't want the job...

Sessions is surrendering all decision-making authority on everything of importance to Rosenstein and other operatives of the Deep State and has done that since he took office. What a miserable, cowardly, little man he is at a time when we need (figurative) a GIANT of a man in that office.

Not so fast.....DOJ has returned 1,183 sealed indictments to date. Hell will reign down on all sorts of illegal activity...details on who will determine his effectiveness or lack thereof.

It's McConnel's mistake that LA was lost.

Maybe wishful thinking, but Sessions could be the proverbial duck--calm on the surface but working like hell out of sight. Many think so.

He's wanted forever to be AG and has a penchant for truth and justice...I can't imagine him allowing the DOJ or FBI to subvert our constitution while he is in charge and responsible.

We'll know soon. I trust DjT to make the proper call.

He became co-opted by the Deep State the day he decided to go along with the advice from the Dept ethics advisors.

“...... I don’t think the attorney general is up to the job he’s doing,”........

One certainly doesn’t have to go very far to understand that Sessions is well over his head as AG. He MAY (questionable) have been adequate as a small town lawyer but sure as hell isn’t hacking it in his current position. Either someone has something very “heavy” on him or his back bone isn’t holding up his body. He NEEDS to go.

I have been saying for months that Jeff Sessions has been compromised by The Deep State. They have something on him or on close family members. It could be financial transactions? Who knows? Personal behavior?

Also Trump has moderated himself due to his children telling him that if he goes all out on campaign promises, that their lives will be FUBARed by the IRS and the Deep State after DJT leaves office. On immigration look who DJT just appointed to run Homeland Securty. An open borders pro-DACA woman who has been kicking around DC for a long time.

I agree with your statement. Everyone is thrashing him yet still will glorify our President as walking on water. If our President didn’t think something is getting done the. He’d can him otherwise those deeply critical of Sessions should be even more critical of his boss as he’s allowed him to stay there.

I guess with today’s tweets, twits, twats, FB this and that instant gratification is in high demand and we must know every breath every department makes and announce to the world that the DOJ is coming for you. Kind of a sad reflection I guess on the state of society. I too find myself getting caught up in this trap.

If not instantly pleased then it isn’t happening

IIRC, Chaffetz held many a hearing in the House that resulted in near nothing, except costing taxpayers $millions.

But Sessions appears to be an abysmal failure as AG. He is spending more on chasing down marijuana trade (as more states legalize it) than in fighting high crime, such as the DC cesspool.

Some have tried to give him a pass by saying he is working behind the scenes, but there is zero proof of that.

You have absolutely nothing to base that assertion on. In fact every piece of evidence indicates just the opposite. Your blind faith in a withering old man in the face of a ponderousness of evidence that states otherwise is baseless hope at best, or just naive at worst.

The Senate is a “go along to get along” club that is a poor platform from which to select a dynamic Attorney General.

Still not 100% convinced Sessions is Deep State. 2 things I can’t yet reconcile...1. Someone is filing a butt ton of sealed federal indictments across the country, and 2. watching the Trump/Sessions handshake at the FBI Graduation ceremony yesterday...either Trump is a helluva actor, or there’s genuine respect between the two men.
