Well, if I accept this at face value, just for the sake of discussion, it doesn’t help much.
Strzok was lying to his wife in a very practiced and deceptive way. On top of that, he was improperly using government property and the government-paid-for communications system to dress up his lies to his wife about his adulterous relationship.
It seems to me that he is dishonest to his core, and likely to have been that way for some time, judging by how easily he slips into improperly transmitting lies on a government system. His boss either knew or should have known his slimy propensity for lies, if not adultery, before hiring this walking moral cesspit.
So, no, I don’t think this spin helps him much.
