I'm far from any expertise in this area. What I do know is that, having spent 23 years in east Asia, the Internet in South Korea is many, many times faster than it is in the USA. And of all places, the Philippines, in villages where there are no landlines at all, every one from 11 years of age up has decent mobile service, and in the other pocket is a mobile hot spot with all the GBs they need for $20 (USD) per month.

One Korean man said to me, "Some one sure does keep the Internet speed choked down in your country! Why?!"

..."Some one sure does keep the Internet speed choked down in your country!" I have said the same for 10 years now. Every day they tell us we need to stream video over our phones, tablets, computers, and TV's, but we can barely check our email. There is no way we will ever "cut the cord" except in a few mega cities. 98% of the rest of the country just suffers through 1-6 mbs with stoppages periodically. I can't even watch a Youtube at 360 and not have buffering.

This situation is crying out for some Chinese immigrant to come in here and spend a few bucks on fiber and put the others out of business. ATT and Verizon sure won't.
