Skynryd supported him in 76 - at least Ronnie Van Zant, did - but then again a whole lot of good people got fooled by Carter.

I think all it had to with was that Carter was from Georgia, nothing more. The band was out of Macon and Phil Walden of Capricorn Records was the one who was political and introduced Gregg and band to Carter.
