The leader of Purdue University’s School of Engineering Education recently declared that academic “rigor” reinforces “white male heterosexual privilege.”

Donna Riley, who previously taught engineering at Smith College for 13 years, published an article in the most recent issue of the journal Engineering Education, arguing that academic rigor is a “dirty deed” that upholds “white male heterosexual privilege.”

Article at Purdue University News announcing her appointment. I note that she is running the Department of Engineering Education. WTF is that? From my link:

Leah Jamieson, the John A. Edwardson Dean of Engineering, announced Tuesday (March 28) the next Kamyar Haghighi Head of the School of Engineering Education will be Donna Riley, a professor at Virginia Tech.

Kamyar Haghighi? Eh?

Mizzz Riley:

This is madness. I close with more of Mizz Riley's "thoughts" (she is said to be a "thought leader"):

“One of rigor’s purposes is, to put it bluntly, a thinly veiled assertion of white male (hetero)sexuality,” she writes, explaining that rigor “has a historical lineage of being about hardness, stiffness, and erectness; its sexual connotations—and links to masculinity in particular—are undeniable.”

The crap has infiltrated the National Science Foundation in a big way:

"In 2005, she received a NSF CAREER award on implementing and assessing pedagogies of liberation in engineering classrooms."

Ah, but look at how much effort they expend in proving that they are inclusive.

More from Purdue:

Head of engineering education to be named for Kamyar Haghighi

Article pretty well explains what a cluster-fxxk "Engineering Education" is.

yes, and here is an example of one of their rising young stars of "Engineering Education" -- what a steaming pantload!!!

Allison Godwin Assistant Professor, Engineering Education

Research: Identity development of diverse engineers; Characterizing latent diversity (features of diversity outside of visible markers like students' underlying attitudes and mindsets); Student interactions with peers in diverse teams; How students at the intersections of multiple social identities (e.g., race, gender identity, sexual orientation, etc.) experience engineering culture and navigate their identities as engineers; How non-cognitive factors (e.g., motivation, identity, etc.) impact student success; Mixed methods research

Bharf! Dad earned his MSEE at Purdue, ‘way back when. (Think: vacuum tubes.) I think he would not approve of the current state of affairs there; I further suspect that he would not meet with these loons’ approval. Too white, too masculine, too intelligent, and too military. Also, he’s straight. Which explains my existence ...

Haghighi came to Purdue in 1986 as an assistant professor of agricultural engineering.

Came from where, I wonder...

students at the intersections

When Civil Engineers talk about "intersections", I listen with respect. This drivel deserves only howls of derisive laughter.

Yeah I’ll bet the only hardness, stiffness and erectness Mizz Riley has ever experienced came with 2 D batteries.

And she based this on 13 years of teaching at Smith? Does she realize that the males at Smith are really imposters?

Hey, don't worry, we just want to provide a lot of diverse, alternative, politically correct sources for new episodes of our favorite show:
