I would say that in the case of the lefties, they listen because the MSM is telling them what they want to hear.

At the next White House press conference, every question should be answered with a reference the CNN fake news article. Sarah Huckabee Sanders could do it beautifully.
Theory out there: the Trump team (or maybe a Congressman like Nunes) gave out multiple phony emails with different pre-Sept 14 dates on them. And... now they know who is the Leaker.

Sane and reasonable people would look at this situation and conclude that the media and the left are acting in collusion with each other with the same goal; the destruction of the current administration.
For historical precedent, Joseph McCarthy gave a speech on the Senate floor in 1951, and later published a ghost-written book that expounded on and backed up his points that he made on the floor, called “America’s Retreat from Victory”.
Like many people, I was unwilling to attach any negative aspirations or actions to someone like George Marshall who was hailed as a war hero and one of the greatest men of the 20th century. McCarthy was not so shy, and was willing not only to say what he thought publicly, but to attempt to back it up with documentation, which he did in his book mentioned above (A copy of which I purchased a couple of years ago)
It is an interesting book, but how it relates to this subject here is this: In his analysis, Joseph McCarthy made the point that if some of the things that were done by Marshall that helped the communists were simply the result of a poor analysis or choice on his part, someone with his intellect would be likely to choose correctly at least SOME of the time, as a matter of averages. And that rarely happened. Without fail, nearly every choice and action in which Marshall was part of, they all were to the advantage of both the Soviets and the Chicoms.
(Note that I am not arguing that Marshall was a shill of the communists, I simply see that thought process applied accurately to the current actions of the media!)
The same characterization can be said of media, in my estimation. If the appalling cumulative negative bulk of their actions were due to their stupidity or inexperience, at least some of their actions would be destructive to the Left, simply as a result of the laws of averages.

I have an 80 year old, liberal neighbor that I help. Many years ago I told her we can be friends but only IF we don’t talk politics. Ever. Not even a little bit. She has stuck to our bargain but every time I go to her house she has MSNBC on.
Folks would be foolish to think the MSM feels any humiliation. It’s perception, not reality, that they deal most with right now.

Oh, I agree 100%, and it is clear that liberals and the media not only believe it 100%, they ae deliberately using it as a tool.
And it works, sad to say. I know some good people who would buy into this out of intellectual laziness, and if you asked them, they would reply that they were concerned about Trump because of (insert media blah blah blah here)
They aren’t bad people, and it isn’t that they aren’t intelligent, they just have not reached the point about being skeptical about what they hear from the media.
They think “Why would they lie to us?”

Again, this is why I question why stories from CNN and other propganda outlets keep getting posted here on the Free Republic 99% have no credibility, yet we still give them attention
I was reminded this morning of the Fake News collusion while re-watching 2016 Election Night coverage (a guilty pleasure) where Martha Raditz cited 17 Intelligence agencies reported Trump/Russian collusion.
We know now that it was really only three and that those three were under control of Brennen, Comey and Clapper!
