I was there about 10 years ago, on a camping tour of the southwest, and I distinctly remember the crummy housing that almost directly abutted the ruins.
I remember having to drive past them to get to the ruins, and wondering if I took a wrong turn. the song “Lowrider” played in my head.
But the ruins were amazing. I felt honored to be able to see them.
Go see ‘em when the luminarias are lit. (If they still do that.) AMAZING. I did it when it was gently snowing.
