I was on one of my cross-country drives in, I think, 1972, and my cousin and I were in Knoxville looking for a place to stay.
We drove down a side street, and saw a football team practicing. Me being from NYC, these were the biggest and fastest football players I had ever seen.
“Must be the Vols”, I said to my cousin.
Turned out to be a local Junior High School. True story.
My jaw dropped when Alabama played Texas A&M....their quarterback is 6'7" and 270 pounds. Man O Man.
