No offense at all, really.

I just like stirring the pot about our radical Jewish nature. The commandments, including kosher, are solely “because G-d says so” and logical explanations are secondary. Of course it’s a good thing— great thing that it’s as painless as can be, but still not our highest concern.

Deut12:21 “…you may slaughter from your cattle and your
flocks that the Creator has given you, as I have commanded you, and you may eat it in your cities…”

BTW this is classic Jewish proof of the accompanying Oral Law given to Moses at Sinai, for nowhere in the Five Books of Moses does G-d explain HOW to slaughter [ergo it is part of our oral law, which we believe to be as old as Moses and the Sinai revelation.]

MORE interestingly, though Judaism does not seek to convert other TO Judaism, we strive to teach all of mankind the seven laws given to Noah, culminating in his exit from the ark. One of which is kindness to animals. Even that has it’s logical moral outgrowth— if one is kind even to animals, all the more so he will be kind to his fellow man.

During WWII we raised rabbits. While Dad was off to the Navy, it fell to me to care for them, and to kill and butcher them as needed. I always stunned them by cracking their necks before cutting their heads off. If I didn't do it right, sometimes they'd start screeching while I was hacking at their neck.

Good on you. I love America and Americans, but left quickly after I saw how the Obama administration was going to go. Or Australia or New Zealand, for that matter. Just away from Europe.

Ah yes, the vaunted and painless neck-cracking procedure.

I fear that you are right. I hope to avoid HaShem’s wrath...

After the flood, Noah was granted greater permission than Adam. The dominion granted to him entitled him to kill any creature to eat its flesh. Noah was, however, forbidden to consume flesh that was removed from certain animals while they were still living. This was an eternal, universal commandment for all of the children of Noah (The Divine Code by Rabbi Moshe Weiner, Ask Noah International, 2011, p 296-297).

Thanks for your comments. I anticipated the first comments would relate to the false contension that Kashrut allows use of only half the animal. Never came up.

I'd just like to say that God, in allowing us to live through today, has certainly seen our technical innovations, especially those that allow us to approach Him so much closer, and that even absent His direct revelation since on shechita, He would understand that the stunning of an animal prior to that, would be an exercise of our further humanity, at least in that direction...IMHO.

IOW, I, at least, wuold be willing to take that chance.
