...giving them enough time to rethink their choices to keep the government open.

Ryan, McConnell, and Trump do not need Pelosi and Schumer to keep the government open. Ryan has a 46 seat majority in the House and McConnell has a 2 seat majority in the Senate. Trump will sign anything they send to him. Schumer and Pelosi do not decide whether the government is open or closed, and blaming them for any shutdown only demonstrates just how incompetent the Republicans are.

Actually it was George Putnam that pioneered the interviewing of an Empty Chair.

Keep in mind, perception is reality, and notwithstanding the work of getting Congress to do their job of legislating (a Herculean task in an of itself), Trump also needs to shape America's perception of government. Part of that job, when necessary, is to shame the enemy when they need shaming.

Schumer and Pelosi were shamed with this image. Why? IMHO, because they arrogantly assumed that, like a good little Republican President, Trump would cancel the meeting once he'd heard that they weren't coming.

Nope! He held it anyway, with their names prominently displayed on either side of him ("Minority Leader..."). Don't for a moment think that this seat placement, and the placement of their names was accidental.

Chuck and Nancy screwed up. They thought Trump was like Bush.

Optional, side benefit: Trump gave Ryan and McConnell a chance to put in digs as well. Trump knows when to coddle and when to shame.

I guess it’s all in the eye of the beholder. I took it as Ryan and McConnell appearing weak and incompetent by admitting that they couldn’t control their caucus enough to pass a budget and that they had to go crawling to Schumer and Pelosi. Trump tried to make the best of the situation but he’s tied to the two boobs leading Congress. Blaming the Democrats for a shutdown just reinforces the weakness.

And in contrast, who looks stronger?

Hint: He's a Republican, with slightly orange hair.

Like I said: the strong horse in this little stage play has to lead the rest of the donkeys (some of whom pretend to be elephants) to do their job. It's proving to be hard.

Yes. The one wedded to two idiots who couldn't successfully organize a two car funeral. Also the one who said that if you couldn't make a deal with a politician then you weren't very good at deal making. Trump is on a limb, thanks to McConnell and Ryan, and Pelosi and Schumer are flipping a coin as to who gets to saw first.

The Top two Democrat snowflakes, Chuckie and Pelosi pull out of White House meeting after whining over Trump’s latest tweet. Then, President Trump, next to the two empty chairs, tears into Dems for skipping the meeting:

Chuckie and Pelosie Galore and their Dems in congress, will now own the upcoming government shutdown of non essential federal agencies.

With them, shutting down the government, they are handing the keys of the nonessential Federal agencies to the man who is draining the DC Swamp.

Then, President Trump, after the Chuckie and Pelosie shutdown the non essential agencies, can tell the American people a few weeks later, “It has been proved by the wonderful and successful shutdown, we don’t need those agencies. “

Therefore, “I am closing all of the so called non essential federal governmental agencies down permanently!”

“Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,to hard working Americans across our great country! MAGA!”

LOL! Well, of course, that’s your perception. We can agree to disagree.

I think your Trump proscription is rather inexpedient.

After Trump's open-seat display, Pelosi accused the president of "verbal abuse."

Get used to it, BotoxBitch.

Imagine if McCain had had the guts to do that during the debates. Bammy said they would debate together and then backed out on the deal. If I’d been McCain I’d had an empty chair with a suit on it and pointed out this is what you get with obama.

McCain worked tirelessly to get Obama elected.
