Trump's Justice Department Takes on Harvard's Asian Quotas

The U.S. Justice Department finally is confronting Harvard University and other elite colleges that blatantly discriminate against Asian-American applicants with a quota system. To get into Harvard, students of Asian heritage have to score hundreds of points higher on competitive exams than non-Asian applicants with similar or even inferior academic records. That's why the Trump administration's Justice Department is demanding Harvard's admissions records and launching an investigation. No surprise that Harvard is stonewalling. The university has plenty to hide.

Harvard's quota system is destroying the American dream for countless Asian families across the nation. Often new to the country and struggling economically, these parents make sacrifices for their children's education and encourage their children to study diligently. It pays off. For example Asian students make up 60 percent of the students in New York City's highly competitive specialized public high schools, like Stuyvesant and Bronx High School of Science.

But Harvard is shutting its door to many of them. As the number of Asian-American college applicants with top academic credentials soared over the last two decades, Harvard has kept acceptances at around 20 percent of each entering class. Harvard doesn't admit that, but the proof is in plain sight.

In 2014, Harvard was sued by Students for Fair Admissions, an advocacy group of mostly first generation Asian-Americans, including parents of high school students striving to qualify for Ivy League admissions. Their lawsuit claims that the rigid racial makeup of every Harvard class -- with fixed percentages of whites, Hispanics and blacks -- is the result of an illegal quota system and insidious discrimination.

In states like California that bar affirmative action in public college admissions, the soaring number of college-age Asian-Americans has led to a rapid increase in their presence on competitive campuses. Asian-American students now win nearly half the places at California Institute of Technology, up from only a quarter in 1992. But not so at Harvard -- proof, according to Students for Fair Admissions, of a secret quota.

The Students for Fair Admissions lawsuit also cites Harvard admissions officials stereotyping Asian applicants. One official described an applicant as "quiet, and of course, he wants to be a doctor." Harvard seems to pigeonhole Asian students as math and science grinds who add little to campus life.

Harvard has spent millions of dollars on legal maneuvers and court filings, trying unsuccessfully to get the lawsuit dismissed and to shield the college's "holistic" admissions process from scrutiny. But a federal judge is compelling the college to hand over six years of admissions records. Stuyvesant, Boston Latin, Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Virginia and Monta Vista in California -- all Harvard "feeder schools" -- were also subpoenaed to provide information. This lawsuit is expected to be tried in Boston late in 2018, but no doubt will end up at the U.S. Supreme Court.

Don't count on the high court to back up Harvard's use of racial preferences to achieve campus diversity. Last year, the Justices split 4-3, when they half-heartedly allowed the University of Texas at Austin to consider race as one of many factors contributing to student body diversity. Justice Anthony Kennedy, writing for the majority, struck an uncertain tone, suggesting the issue would need to be revisited, and Justice Samuel Alito specifically cited discrimination against Asian-American applicants as a problem.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration's Justice Department is pulling no punches. In response to a complaint from more than 60 Asian-American groups alleging discrimination at Harvard, civil rights lawyers at Justice are demanding to see admissions records. So far, Harvard has not produced a single document. The Justice Department has imposed a final deadline of Dec. 1, and is threatening to sue the university.

Harvard's racial quota system is indefensible. Fortunately, its days are numbered, because finally we have a Justice Department willing to fight for colorblind fairness in college admissions.

>Top universities should admit based on merit and achievement and not on the color of one’s skin.

Top universities should be burned to the ground for indoctrinating students with Marxism. What’s the point of having them if their primary goal is to destroy the republic?

Harvard would have far more students of Chinese and Indian ethnicity if they admitted on the basis of good grades and SAT scores. But quite frankly, it’s Harvard’s loss more than it is that of the Asian students - they’re smart enough and ambitious enough to succeed in life without the benefit of a Harvard degree.

Duke university does this too...our daughter is 1/2 Thai and 1/2 American and same thing happened there...they have gone one step further...they have gone full court on preferring islam middle eastern and african muslims over all others regardless over all others. Our daughter and three others applying had GPAs in top 5 with other outstanding qualifications and yet the “m” with GPA ranking 30+ from same HS was only one to get in...go figure

I think Harvard should be fined the exact amount they have in their endowment fund.

of course, whites will be the ones left out...they'll allow the Asians but will take fewer whites and keep the number or blacks the same...

I still cling to the bitter hope that life is fair....I'm disappointed every single day..lol...

“Why should I care about their reaction?”

Because all the race riots and bitching and moaning by the blacks and leftists over the past 50 years have been THAT reaction.

As well as the subsequent appeasement (in the form of welfare, anti-discrimination laws, affirmative action, etc, etc) paid by regular folks like you and me to temporarily stop them from rioting, until their next sense of perceived injustice and “racism” pops up.

And with each one of these riot-appeasement cycle the overall culture gets more crass and rotten and the demands more outrageous. Have you noticed that?

So do you think you should care yet?

And if you do, what would you do about it?

>Because all the race riots and bitching and moaning by the blacks and leftists over the past 50 years have been THAT reaction.

Nah, that's the media's told you to believe. Race riots started when people started giving into demands. Riots are about dominance, not grievances and dominance displays are encouraged by appeasement. Riots end when you stop giving in and punch back. Look at Reagan, he used armed troops to put down the disorders at CA universities and that didn't spark bigger more violent reactions. Instead, they became quite places of learning for 20 years.

>As well as the subsequent appeasement (in the form of welfare, anti-discrimination laws, affirmative action, etc, etc) paid by regular folks like you and me to temporarily stop them from rioting, until their next sense of perceived injustice and “racism” pops up.

The riots got worse after you started the appeasement. Noticed they stopped for a very long time after the Koreans shot the crap out of the rioters in the LA riots? We had peace for about 20 years until we elected a Black president and like clockwork, they started up again. The key to understanding this type of behavior is dominance displays.

>And with each one of these riot-appeasement cycle the overall culture gets more crass and rotten and the demands more outrageous. Have you noticed that?

The demands get worse because you give in. It's like giving the Danes the Dane-geld. Of course, they're going to demand more.

>So do you think you should care yet?

Nope. In fact, we should shove it down their throats good and hard to end this BLM crap.

>And if you do, what would you do about it?

If there's a riot in my area I'll do everything I deem necessary to defend my home and neighbors and then we'll have peace for a long time.

Believe it or not, Asians now number 6.5% of the US population...while blacks are only twice that (13%).

In other words, there are a LOT OF ASIANS in the US, and their kids are being screwed BIG TIME by the Democrats. To me, Asians sound like a SUPER GROUP for the Republicans to go after...but Asians still vote at least 70% Democrat, despite Harvard and nearly every other college that can legally screw over Asian children doing just that.

So why don’t Republicans make a play for the Asian vote? Two reasons, (1) the Republican Party is too busy trying to purge conservatives like Trump and Moore, and (2) the Republican Party still has not yet found a conservative that speaks Asian - so they have no one who can communicate with Asians.

(hint Republicans: There is no ‘Asian’ language, you might as well believe me on this. There is Chinese, Hindi, Japanese, Koren, and several others - you may try starting to look for some people who speak those languages)

They’ll continue doing so as long as the GOP continues acting like the minority party. Asians generally pick the strong horse to vote for and the GOP clearly isn’t in charge.

Not getting the right amswer when doing homework during family time in an Asian home is not fun. Why should such discipline to study be punished with higher entrance requirements. It is total racist BS.

To stop anti-white discrimination, the quota system and Affirmative Action have to be abolished. This should be a much easier first step and it could be used for precedence against Affirmative Action, which discriminates against everyone who isn't a minority.

Harvard is a den of black racists apparently. Black
racists are particularly harsh with asians because of feelings of inadequacy with smart asians.

It is like the Jews in Europe, hated for their exclusive culture and rich private science and elite status

the dirty little secret is they discriminate against openly christian & white applicants. If you are white and your leadership is in the Knights of Columbus or the Baptist Youth Council or the LDS Youth Missons - kiss your chances goodbye.

My nephew is applying to colleges right now. My brother and his wife have hired one of those “college advisor” types who help with the resumes and scholarships.

My nephew is an Eagle scout, and he was told to NOT put that on admissions for some the schools he was applying to, as it would count AGAINST him.

So, what you are saying is quite true.

Why is Trump doing this when he has done nothing to stop anti-white discrimination?

Give any example of a politician who has done more than Trump. The left constantly calls this man a racist because he isn't down with the sjw cause.

He usually speaks in code. For example, he doesn't criticize BLM directly, but he does always talk about his support for the police who are risking their lives daily to keep you safe, etc.

Same idea applies here, he doesn't address the anti-white policies directly: He uses Asians as his proxy. That seems like smart politics to me.

Harvard is a private university and is entitled to do whatever it wants. Of course, it should be honest about its Yellow Peril quotas; this is a truth-in-marketing issue that the federal regulators (the FTC, Dept. of Education, and probably others) should police effectively. And if it does indeed discriminate (as it clearly does), it should not receive one penny of federal funding and should lose its tax exemptions.

In other words, Harvard should be treated exactly like Bob Jones University was treated, or how any small business would be treated if it discriminated against a protected class.

If the University of California system admitted based on merit Asians would be at least half the students.

Why?

Rather than make a frontal attack, this is an attack from the flank that can’t get mired in all the white supremacy/inequality left wing nonsense.
