LA Times: Whites are moving back to Inglewood. There goes our neighborhood.

The writer’s resentment toward the white newcomer suggests it’s the same individual who left, back in the day.
But it probably isn’t. It’s probably someone who hasn’t a clue what the racial makeup of the community was, years ago. Someone who’s never been there, never committed white flight.

What really burns me is when whites work hard to live in a nice neighborhood with low crime and good schools, and then the government, thinking there’s not enough “diversity,” gives money to blacks or Hispanics to move into the same neighborhood that whites had to work their tails off to afford. Just by virtue of their skin color, blacks and Hispanics get free or cheaper houses.

When the first little housing developments went up in the 80s in Palmdale (north of LA), my friend and her new husband were able to afford their first little home. Moved in, had a couple babies, had a great life. Then L.A. started giving some of these starter homes as section 8 (whatever number) to inner city Angelinos. Their idyllic little neighborhood where kids played in the front yards and people had friends and bbqs turned into a crack wasteland. No one could sell, they were all upside down, the streets were unsafe. They just packed up and walked away and left the keys in the door, went to shack up at grandma’s.

Today that area is a gang filled total blight.

It’s all behavior, not skin color.

Most people in upper middle class Ladera Heights next to Inglewood don’t have a clue it wasn’t always black. When I was little it was all Jewish, every house.

It was called “Blockbusting”. Unscrupulous Realtors would sell a home in a white neighborhood to a black person, soon every house would be for sale, cheap. Sometimes the white families would just abandon their homes.

My Grandmother was the last white person on her block on the South side of Syracuse in the 70’s. When my Mom was a teen, she rode the bus home at midnight without fear. My Grandmother was robbed on her front porch during the daytime, shortly before she left town. Sold her house and was lucky to find a buyer for $5,000. They bought the house in the Depression for $7,500.

Is there racism on the Right? Sure...but there's a lot more of it on the Left...

You're asking the wrong question. Everyone is. And that is why there is so much confusion and debate and misunderstanding. Here's the real question:

Is it wrong to see people of different races and/or cultures as different than you?

If you say yes, then good luck, because it is the most basic of human nature to be more comfortable with people who look like you and act like you than with people who appear alien to you. The leftists, in their endless quest to divide and conquer, have seized upon one of the most basic of human instincts and classified it as an "evil", convincing everyone else of the same, and by doing that, have given themselves a weapon with which to beat everyone into submission. You don't want to buy what the leftists are selling? Racism! You don't want to elect this politician? Racism! You don't want to support unlimited immigration? Racism! You don't want to have your government print all of its documents in 20 languages? Racism! You want the police to put criminals in jail? Racism!

All of the "isms" invented in the last 100 years are simply psychological tools with which to control the masses, to get them to ignore reality and their own eyes in favor of the leftists' new reality. Reality is now what the leftists say it is, or else you are a racist. You take the first step toward your own freedom when you simply stop and ask the question: "What is racism and why is it bad?"

Whitey moves in...houses are painted...lawns are cared for...no mattresses are thrown into vacant lots...no cars up on blocks...

I know, I’m racist because I don’t want to have a high probability of being mugged or in a drive-by shooting when stepping outside to get my mail. These people are unconcerned with 2/3 of their population being somewhere in the correctional system but whites living in their neighborhood is a travesty.

Nice story, interestingly I grew up in Lynwood,Ca. just twelve miles away in the same time period. I saw the change in the neighborhood with some Whites moving out and Blacks moving up into the neighborhood and don't recall anything like this. As a matter of fact people, Blacks and Whites seemed to get along quite well as neighbors, not at all like the acrimony during the riots.

I heard of much more issues later when Blacks were the majority residents starting to upscale out and the Hispanics upscaling into Lynwood. But no one will talk about that because it doesn't push the Whites are the only racists theme.

There will always be some incidents of racism enacted by Whites, Blacks, browns, whatever color, because it is a part of human nature.

MrT5 was in SanFran in the early 90’s for an extended TDY-even then it was so expensive that we decided I would stay in our home in Texas while he stayed in the base/post BOQ-and he was an 05...

That would certainly have something to do with my opinion if my neighborhood was trashed like that-I’d move-but I’m a Latina, so I wouldn’t be welcome in a Black neighborhood in a big city anyway...
