Yes they get the piece of paper, but they also get the pay raise...for life! As long as you confine the argument to that fact alone, I say get the degree.

Now if you bring in the argument of whether it is a benefit to the students that this Masters is supposed to be preparing you to teach, it gets quite a bit mushier.

Students don’t pay union dues. Therefore, it doesn’t matter in the slightest whether a teacher’s Master’s degree benefits them.
