John Conyers 'has no plans to resign' amid sexual harassment scandal, lawyer says

A lawyer for Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., said late Wednesday that his client does not intend to quit Congress amid multiple sexual harassment allegations.

In a statement, Arnold Reed said that Conyers "will not be forced out of office based on the agenda of others" and claimed that "[i]f people were required to resign over allegations, a lot of people would be out of work in this country including, many members of the house[sic], senate[sic], and even the president."

The 88-year-old Conyers is the subject of an investigation by the House Ethics Committee after BuzzFeed reported Monday that his office paid a woman more than $27,000 under a confidentiality agreement to settle a complaint in 2015 that she was fired from his Washington staff because she rejected his sexual advances.

Puts me in mind of Charlie Rangel. Stubborn to the end. Conyers will probably fight to finish this term and finally retire. These people staying in congress, both House and Senate forever until the day they die is one of the biggest problems with our government today. We so need term limits, pension limits, and medical care limits for all congresscritters.

Black men never admit wrongdoing. Slavery was wrong so we owe them. Just ask Bill Clinton or Pete Rose.

Why would he step down or resign? He’s a Democrat! Aren’t they signed onto that other “rule of law” that you and I aren’t? I mean, just because he shelled out $27K of our money to hush the women he harassed doesn’t make him guilty of any wrongdoing. Shame on you! /s/

Lefties said that Franken shouldn’t have to resign because he admitted the acts (which were photographed by the way)

I wonder what excuse they’ll have for this guy?

He’s a protected species, and already of dinosaur age. Any legal or congressional consequences will not happen before his demise. In fact, why not live it up, in your face? He would be good at it and die happy. I would contend he will face no punishment or retribution in his lifetime.

Funny how they don’t say that when it comes to Judge Moore.

Why does Conyers think its his decision to make?

Taxpayers have the ultimate say.....and we want him OUT.

They all learned from Bill Clinton - in an earlier era, even rumors of stuff like this could have driven politicians out of office, but the world saw Clinton shamelessly lie, get caught, impeached and still finish out his presidency with liberals everywhere throwing away every last shred of principle to defend him. Why should guys like Conyers, Franken and Joe Barton walk away - they learned from Clinton, they know that there will be partisans on either side willing to back them despite everything and they can ride this out.

NBC NEWS REPORT-—Rep. Jackie Speier, D-Calif., one of the House members pushing hardest to reform the system of reporting sexual harassment complaints within Congress, said John Conyers’ characterization of a settlement he made with an aide using tax dollars from his office budget simply represented another way to bypass accountability.

Speier has been critical of the reporting process run under the auspices of the Office of Compliance in Congress, which has settled all types of work place complaints. She noted that the avenue Conyers used has even less oversight.

“Beyond the sexual harassment allegations are allegations that call into question the amount of money that is used to settle sexual harassment cases, and whether some Members are using their taxpayer-funded office budgets to make settlements under the guise of severance payments,”

Speier said in a statement. “If this is true, the amount of taxpayer money used to settle these cases is even higher than the number that’s been provided by the Office of Compliance.”

This cretinous ahole has been in Congress since the Johnson administration, which coincidently is the same timeframe the country has been going down the crapper. Enough is enough.
