A college student in California who stole a “Make America Great Again” hat off of another student’s head faces up to a year in jail, according to a Tuesday report.

"Faces" up to a year in jail. She will have no jail. I've seen where stuff like this happens. A misdemeanor court where the judge is used to shoplifters and other petty crime. Suddenly in walks a coterie of high powered Ivy League lawyers.

The Judge is astounded as the lawyers begin by objecting to the victim being called "the victim." The lawyers make also sorts of bizarre references and shout objections every few minutes. They spend hours of precious courtoom time trashing the victim for wearing a hat that says "Make America Great Again."

The prosecutor will be a low-level starting misdemeanor attorney who doesn't know what to do. He or she thought it was an open and shut case. Every normal lawyer knows not to make stupid objections but everyone watches in awe as the radical left wing legal eagles take over the minor court. Both the judge and the prosecutor will be putty in their hands. Lines of orange clad petty criminals will have to wait a few hours on their cases for the forgone conclusion of some idiot excuse for letting the criminal go.

This report is total BS. There is no way she will do a year in jail on a charge of Grand theft for taking a $10 hat. First taking the hat was not grand theft in any way since that charge usually requires the stolen object be worth thousands of dollars. Second that is the maximum sentence, I would be surprised if she received any jail time at all after plea bargains. Justice will not be done here.

This situation is a perfect analogy for the left's philosophy, unconscious assumptions (that they are justified in doing anything because they are right and we are wrong and bad) and actions in general, and the reckoning they would need to come to straighten them out. They will not come to this reckoning on their own - and probably not even with jail time.

Here in Texas, such a crime is “Theft from a Person,” such as pick-pocketing and such thefts just short of robbery. It is a serious misdemeanor and includes jail time, even if it was only a quarter stolen.
