Mejia deportation case raises the question: What kind of society are we?
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | November 20, 2017 | Salvatore J. Cordileone

“Am I my brother’s keeper?” The Book of Genesis does not record an answer to Cain’s question when God confronts him after Cain’s act of fratricide. It leaves the reader to decide in the reader’s own conscience. How would you decide?

In a virtuous society — that is, one whose political, social and economic institutions allow all of its members to flourish — the answer to both questions is the same. Will we be such a virtuous society?

It is hard to flourish when you are shot down in cold blood by a murdering illegal alien. Did the the good archbishop meet with the Kate Steinle family? Did he console the father who had his daughter die in his arms? Or is he only concerned with filling his pews with bodies regardless of their immigration status? Get back to your pedophile priest and let us secure our borders.

There are better than three billion poor people in the world. Sorry, my compassion just isn’t that big.

What kind of society are we?

I hope that we are a society that honors the rule of law.

I worry that we are a society of emotional women who masquerade as men and who just do whatever "feels" right and makes them feel better than others.

A virtuous society wouldn’t murder 1.5 million unborn babies a year, so I think we already have the answer to the question.

We either have the rule of law or we don’t.

"... that is, one whose political, social and economic institutions allow all of its members to flourish ... "

Keyword: members.

And if everyone is a member, then no one is a member.

If everyone is a member, there is no society to speak of, because nothing defines it.

Yes, it does record an answer. God repaid Cain, and his offspring. Genesis 7:23

He blotted out every living thing that was upon the face of the ground, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the air; they were blotted out from the earth.

If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime.

And that’s the name of that tune.

A virtuous society wouldn’t use iphones made with child labor.

A virtuous society wouldn’t demand the deaths of thousands by forbidding them to use coal to provide heat and light.

A virtuous society wouldn’t block GMO efforts to increase crop yields to feed the hungry.

But then I’m not as smart or introspective as this chronicle writer from San Francisco.

They all need to repent of their false religions, and false doctrines that hold people back. Many countries have plenty of resources, but little morality, which amounts to vast corruption and suffering people. People need to get on track with The LORD God and with His help turn their countries around. As is, what is to a large extent happening is they import their corruption and demise into our Country.

Our Country needs great repentance too, or without the immigrants we will go down the tubes on our own. Likely many of the illegals and some of the legal immigrants are a form of judgment from The LORD. We import their ungodly ways, because we deserve their ungodly influence.

I’m my brothers keeper or helper to the extent he can’t help or support himself, such as genuine disabilities. Beyond this, he needs to take responsibility

Virtuous or not.

” Am I my brother’s keeper?” The Book of Genesis does not record an answer to Cain’s question when God confronts him after Cain’s act of fratricide. It leaves the reader to decide in the reader’s own conscience.

It does not leave the reader to decide their own conscience regarding Cain’s statement.

Am I My Brother’s Keeper? Is an arrogant and deceitful deflection to a question to hide his crime

Further, we do not have a moral obligation to every single person who comes to this country much less to the rest of the world as their caretakers.

And now for the backstory:
ICE officials placed both men in expedited deportation proceedings without a court hearing — known formally as “reinstatement” — because they each had old removal orders issued more than a decade ago after being caught attempting to cross the border illegally.

http://sacramento.cbslocal.com/2017/05/15/exclusive-undocumented-worker-didnt-know-he-was-going-to-work-at-air-force-base/

They have been deported before and were arrested by ICE Fugitive Task Force.

Am I my brother’s keeper?

My brother’s keeper? Yeah, maybe. My cousin’s keeper? Probably not so much. My third cousin twice removed’s barber’s ex-wife’s auto mechanic who snuck in from Guadalajara so he could peddle fentanyl to junior high kids? Probably not at all.

The United States is *already* such a society, far more so than any society in the past.

The left always compares the USA to some cloud cuckoo fantasy utopia.

The only sane comparison is to other existing polities.
