What period of time was the 15 million paid out, one year, five years etc? Do we even know, because 27,000.00 is a drip in the bucket and is that the average payout? If so, there are a lot of claims. I think we are entitled, at a minimum, to know the conditions of these payouts.

Twenty-six term Congressman John James Conyers Jr. (born May 16, 1929) is an American Democratic politician and a U.S. Representative for Michigan’s 13th congressional district. The district includes the western half of Detroit, as well as River Rouge, Ecorse, Redford Township, Dearborn Heights, Highland Park, Westland, Garden City, Inkster, Wayne, and Romulus.

As the longest-serving active Representative, he is the Dean of the House of Representatives, as well the last remaining member of either body that has been serving since the 1960s and the presidency of Lyndon B. Johnson.

After serving in the Korean War, Conyers became active in the civil rights movement. He also served as an aide to Congressman John Dingell before winning election to the House in 1964. He co-founded the Congressional Black Caucus in 1969 and established a reputation as one of the most liberal members of Congress.

Conyers joined the liberal Congressional Progressive Caucus after it was founded in 1991. Conyers supports the creation of a single-payer healthcare system and sponsored the United States National Health Care Act to achieve that goal.

He also sponsored a bill to establish Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a federal holiday. Conyers ran for Mayor of Detroit in 1989 and 1993 but was defeated in the Democratic primary in both elections.

Conyers serves as the ranking member of the House Committee on the Judiciary. He previously served as chairman of that committee from 2007 to 2011 and as Chairman of the House Oversight Committee from 1989 to 1995. Conyers is one of seven individuals and the only African-American to have served in Congress for at least fifty years. (source WIKI)
