One time I was on a road trip on I-5 with several other friends in their cars, going from L.A. to S.F. We all had the same sports cars, and a couple friends challenged me to a race. We had CB radios to keep contact. So three of us are racing between 100 to 120 mph when one friend drops back, and radios us to look out - highway patrol is on us! Just then, me and my other friend see a CHP car pull up alongside us. At that point, we had slowed to 90mph. He looks at us, smiles and waves. He then shot ahead of us while we slowed down to the speed limit. A few miles up, we saw that he pulled over an ordinary sedan. We got a pass from this decent cop!
I’ve gotten some passes in my day too.
It does feel good to get a pass once in a while.
The last time it happened, I thanked the guy by NEVER speeding in that area again. I watch my speed religiously in that area.
I think we all go over the speed limit a bit, but I try not to. And in this area, I make it a conscious effort to honor the pass I got by adhering to the law.
It is for everyone’s safety, and I do not want to hurt a family or a member of a family due to my inappropriate driving.
Beautiful day, light traffic, just enjoying the drive, until the red warning light came on in the rear view mirror.
Immediately slowed down and pulled over.
"You got any idea how fast you were going?"
"Um, no, my first concern was got get over and stop safely, I didn't think to look at the speedometer until I'd slowed down to 65..."
"...but the car doesn't smooth out until 80, and it was pretty smooth."
This was followed by a bit of professional conversation.
He wrote me up for 65 in a 55 zone. Very much appreciated!
