“I dont know if its changed but you don’t have an obligation to obey an illegal order.”

No obligation? The general is scary. On that level of command, with something that critical, the safety of the nation, to overrule a president is unthinkable.

He is falling into the MSM narrative that Trump would all of a sudden get up one morning and start ordering buttons to be pushed on a whim.

The general is so stupid.

Nominated by Obama to head SAC.

I guess we will all have to defer to your obviously first-rate, current military knowledge.

SAC has been gone since 1992.

It’s not just you. The general appears to be responding to accusations at a conference, explaining that the US military command is well versed in US law regarding nukes, has safeguards against irrational and illegal acts, and is not going to be caught flat-footed wondering what to do. CBS has twisted that into a fake news opportunity to bash Trump, since THEY assume Trump is irrational. The general on the other hand emphasized that the US has measures to deal with anything the Norks might dish up, and that Trump is working with other countries to deal with NK rationally.

Big thanks to CBS for making the US less secure, by giving first strikers reason to think a leftist ideologue might block a US response via legalisms.

Wonder what Curtis LeMay would tell this former general?

It wasn’t a reporter interviewing him. He was being interviewed in a security conference session.

Same difference. These “security conferences” are Never Trump orgies. The context was clear and that the good General did not simply affirm confidence in his chain of command is unforgivable. All our enemies are watching for weak areas to probe and this buffoon gave them one. Hopefully, no one is killed because of these arrogant fools.

another case of a misleading headline:

“I provide advice to the president, he will tell me what to do,” Hyten added. “And if it’s illegal, guess what’s going to happen? I’m going to say, ‘Mr. President, that’s illegal.’ And guess what he’s going to do? He’s going to say, ‘What would be legal?’ And we’ll come up options, with a mix of capabilities to respond to whatever the situation is, and that’s the way it works. It’s not that complicated.”

bullshit, you are wrong wrong wrong, no order is presumptively legal.

By the time the order gets to this guy, the JCS has already deliberated it and this guy would be disobeying his commanding officer, not the President.

Not true. Unified Command Plan

UCCs work directly for the President.

Another fake headline, people need to read the actual article....

"I provide advice to the president, he will tell me what to do," Hyten added. "And if it's illegal, guess what's going to happen? I'm going to say, 'Mr. President, that's illegal.' And guess what he's going to do? He's going to say, 'What would be legal?' And we'll come up options, with a mix of capabilities to respond to whatever the situation is, and that's the way it works. It's not that complicated.".....LOL!

I think he is mistaken about Trump issuing an illegal order. I believe the nuclear arsenal is under the president’s exclusive control. The general might have chosen immoral, unethical or some similar synonym, but his use of “illegal” displays a dangerous, self-righteous and ignorant understanding of Trump’s authority and the general’s requirement to carry out the CIC’s orders. It’s time to relieve the general and to reeducate everyone on the nuclear control org chart.

I have the same question as you.

How does this general know all the variables facing the President when the President giveds a launch command.

Especially with 23 minutes before something inbound hits.

It made it sound like somehow this general’s permission must be obtained before the PResident’s order is carried out.

This question did not need to be answered—decline and move on.

He should be fired just for speaking to CBS News.

So who is in the Situation Room with the President when options are being played out?

Is it the President who gets on the phone and orders a base or sub to fire, or is it someone in the military command structure?

Or does the President pick up the phone in the residence and call someone to launch a nuke?

In each case, military personnel have an obligation and a duty to only obey Lawful orders and indeed have an obligation to disobey Unlawful orders, including orders by the president that do not comply with the UCMJ. ... In fact it says, ‘Members of the military have an obligation to disobey unlawful orders.’

Look it up.

That “general” looks like he’s getting ready to partake of the military’s new free gender reassignment program.
