WASHINGTON (Reuters) - One thing is definitely going right for U.S. President Donald Trump and his fellow Republicans who control Congress: they are steadily getting conservatives appointed as judges, advancing their long-held ambition of reshaping the federal judiciary. So concern among conservatives arose after Democrats swept to victory in state and local elections in Virginia, New Jersey and elsewhere this month, signaling potential trouble for Republicans in the November 2018 mid-term elections in which control over Congress is at stake.
If the partys slim 52-48 majority in the Senate, which reviews and confirms federal judicial nominees, is at risk, Republicans may need to move even more quickly on getting judges confirmed by the Senate for their lifetime posts, some legal experts said.
Obviously, who gets nominated and the pace of confirmations ... changes dramatically if the Senate were to flip back to the Democrats, said John Malcolm, a former Justice Department lawyer and now an analyst at the Heritage Foundation conservative think tank in Washington.
Republicans should be paying particular attention to pushing through as many nominees as they can, added Malcolm, also active in the Federalist Society, a conservative lawyers group whose members have frequently been tapped for judicial posts by Republican presidents.
Trump and congressional Republicans have not passed any major legislation since he took office in January despite controlling the White House and Congress. But after a slow start that had worried conservative activists, Republicans have made major headway on judicial appointments in recent weeks.

I’m still with Ted Cruz: Hillary would have been a BETTER PRESIDENT, as we wouldn’t have the sleezeball we now have in the White House.
Well, Mr. Cruz certainly thought that in 2016 when we needed him on board during the convention.
...and that is why he doesn’t get my vote, either in the Primary or after the Primary.
Not to mention Mr. Cruz jumping on the Anti-Moore RINO Bandwagon 5 days ago (along with Cornyn):

Thankfully there are BETTER REPUBLICANS, people like the Governor of Alabama, who put this country first, rather than petty grievances. Hopefully we get one of them to replace Cruz.
More MAGA! More Winning! YES!!!
What sleaze ball in the White House? Oh, that is what Ted thought? It was not clear.
Yea, I was ‘channeling’ Ted without quoting him. I’ll never forgive him for that stunt at the convention. If he had been on board and made a strong pro-Trump speech, he likely would have brought a million voters and Trump wouldn’t be having to deal with nearly this level of crap now.
...not to mention that Cruz nearly threw it to Hillary.
...I just like to point it out during Trump’s STRONGEST MOMENTS, as in judicial picks.
People like Cruz really need to think BIG PICTURE regarding this country, or they shouldn’t hold that type of office.
One may notice that The Wall is no longer in the news. Trump is doing his best considering he is being attacked by foes and ‘friends’ from the front, the back, the sides, from above and below, and probably from across the space-time continuum by the Jerry Brown and Burn-out factions.
“Yea, I was channeling Ted without quoting him. Ill never forgive him for that stunt at the convention.”
Right on BobL! Cruz is an untrustworthy, self-serving POS, and Texas voters need to wake up and smell the coffee. For a conservative state to have Cruze and Cornholio as their US Senators makes the rest of us wonder what they’re smoking. We here in California have a reason for having to crap hole Senators, they don’t.
I had been a Cruz supporter. His scrappy attitude against Donald Trump sure changed my mind fast.
I guess scrappy works, but the word WAS scrappy. Autocorrect gremlins.
CRAPPY. Dang.
LOL!
You had me going there.
I read your other posts over and over.
DANG
Thanks people. What WAY TOO MANY Republicans seem to believe is that they are REQUIRED TO COMMENT on issues that they likely don’t know enough either way to make an INTELLIGENT determination.
As a person who works in an area where people will die if I’m wrong, my default position is very simple. If I cannot make a fully informed decision on any issue, then I will not make any decision.
SAME should be true in politics. If 20 women come forward saying that Trump is a monster...ok...then show my PROOF of such. Proof would be payoffs, recordings, pictures, etc.
If no proof, my answer would be NO COMMENT !!!
Is that too much to ask of Cruz? Maybe so.
(Yeah, I know you can't really do that, but it's fun to imagine.)

You’d make a perfect GOPe loser. I wouldn’t be quiet as a senator if 20 women came forward without any proof.
“Youd make a perfect GOPe loser. I wouldnt be quiet as a senator if 20 women came forward without any proof.”
Sorry, but by GOPe standards, the response is: “If it’s 20 people, then that alone is proof, and since we don’t like Moore to begin with, the country will be better off with a Democrat in that seat, voting to kill the country.”
That fact is that Moore is a polarizing figure and there there are likely a million Democrats, just in Alabama, who would publicly lie about him to keep him out of the Senate never occurs to the GOPe.
But it’s easy for us non-public figures to say these women are all liars, since we don’t have to get elected, but it’s MUCH HARDER to say the same and stay in (or win office). Again, if the GOPe simply said something like “Maybe Moore is lying, maybe the women are lying. With no evidence either way, we can’t tell, but there are bigger issues, like the survival of the country, so we’re sticking with Moore.” And if they want to go beyond that, they can mention that the Senate will have the right to expel him if they find grounds for it, but at that point, at least the seat will remain Republican.
That’s basically Kay’s statement. Sure it’s political, but it’s the kind of answer that still allows the people to vote for Moore, yet does not destroy the officeholder (Kay, in this case), if REAL evidence did emerge.
