It’s been years seen I’ve seen Arthur Miller’s play “Th e Crucible”. It is theoretically about the Salem Witch Trials of 1692, but it is in fact about the McCarthy hearings of the 1950s.

My recollection is that the girls of Salem make up stories and accuse various people of being witches. The Judge basically takes the attitude that witches are dangerous, and if someone is accused, then that pretty much means they’re guilty, and so a number of people are put to death, because, you know, better safe than sorry.

And then the girls accuse the Judge’s wife of being a witch. And everything changes.

The judge makes it all very clear — You can’t believe silly teenage girls. Maybe witches don’t exist. These trial are a travesty of justice. We need to end this. Everyone go home and stop being so crazy.

I’m waiting for the Democrats to get to this point, but they are slower than I would expect.

1, there were strange things going on in Salem, 2,however it was mostly the accusers who were guilty.
