I’m going to have to find another policy after 12 years with BC/BS.
Had a great policy. $1200 deductible, they paid 100% after. Even down to $4 generic meds.
2008, premium was $350/mo.
Just got my greeting a couple weeks ago, for 2018, the premium is now $1650/mo. For just me.
I was going backwards this year with a $1300/mo payment. I’ll go bankrupt trying to shell out half of my take home pay for health insurance.
That is exactly the problem and why 0bamacare is going to collapse. It isn’t just the insurance companies that can’t keep paying the claims, it is the consumer who can’t afford the cost either.
Even the cost sharing plans rates are increasing as more people move to them and away from traditional style insurance. Example here: https://www.libertyhealthshare.org/3-program-options
More people will be heading to the marketplace for health insurance subsidy. But you’ve got to look very, very closely at the types of insurance offered, where it is accepted, percentage paid, and those damn deductibles. As I browsed the offers it puzzled me as to how those lower middle class families were to afford any of those policies on the marketplace? None of them make good financial sense for people living paycheck to paycheck. But millions will flock to them to avoid the ‘penalty’ of not having insurance failing to grasp that the penalty and an off market out of compliance plan provides better and more coverages, protects their families better than the government mandated mess. And ultimately costs less on balance at the end of the year against the penalty.
I say, find a good broker and look hard at the financials long term.
