NFL owners have reportedly brought up the idea of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones forfeiting the franchise.
On Sunday, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk cited a league source who said "multiple owners already have been discussing the possibility, which flows from Article VIII of the NFL's Constitution and Bylaws."
One of the sections of the article allows the commissioner to essentially force the forfeiture of a team if the owner "has been or is guilty of conduct detrimental to the welfare of the league or professional football" and a $500,000 fine is deemed "not adequate or sufficient."
Florio granted such a move "would trigger years of litigation" and explained the notion of applying it to Jones specifically "comes from the belief among owners that Jones instigated Papa John's CEO John Schnatter to disparage the NFL, blaming league leadership for ratings declines and, in turn, a reduction in Papa John's revenues."
The news comes after a period of time when Jones' name and the Cowboys were in plenty of NFL headlines.
His team's star running back, Ezekiel Elliott, started his six-game suspension stemming from a domestic violence investigation Sunday during Dallas' 27-7 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. The ongoing case has been litigated throughout the NFL season and will continue to be moving forward.
Jones also weighed in on the notion of players protesting police brutality and racial inequality by kneeling during the national anthem, saying anyone who "disrespects the flag" will not be allowed to play, per Mike Finger of the San Antonio Express-News.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported the comments triggered a team meeting.
According to Jeff Darlington of ESPN, Jones didn't even speak with Falcons owner Arthur Blank before Sunday's contest. Clarence E. Hill Jr. and Drew Davison of the Star-Telegram noted Blank—who SportsDay said is the compensation committee chairman for owners who will decide on Roger Goodell's potential contract extension—and Jones "are at odds" regarding the extension.
Hill and Davison said "Jones threatened to sue the league" and "contends that Blank has misled owners about having the unanimous approval of the six-man committee to extend Goodell."

Anyone at his income level can buy his own private jet and is essentially self-insured for family medical needs.
That amendment applies to the government only. NFL can set its own rules and do what it wants.

Revenue down 50% this year? My god, ignorance is bliss. Whatever empty seats you see, they have already been sold (except in Los Angeles) and those are special cases. I could not help but notice some of the pictures taken of empty seats were 30 minutes before game time.
In Washington today, I noticed some empty seats, but the stadium was sold out - some people chose not to show up, but it wasn't all that much.
As far as the networks are concerned, the contract is between the league and the networks. The networks are paying the NFL whatever the contract calls for regardless of ratings. If a network has to do a make good on an ad, that is the network's loss and not the NFL.
Now it is true, revenue may be affected in the future, but not until the network contracts are up for renewal. ESPN has already stated they may not bid on future contracts, but that could be a future bargaining ploy...who knows.
The football ratings have fallen some but still are the highest rated network shows according to Nielsen. Whatever revenue is being lost is ancillary revenue, such as parking revenue and a cut of concessions which is basically pocket change to the owners.
That was before this season.
Have you seen the empty stadiums. The NFL can only function so long with empty stadiums.

Florio is a huge lefty who has supported the kneelers strongly on his own site profootballtalk.com, despite the deluge of negative comments on the posting board there. He’s as tone deaf and commuted to this as Goodell himself.

Wow, you really don’t get it. The left is thrilled about this. The NFL was one of the last bastions against them. Now they got conservatives, regular people hating it. That’s a total victory for the left.

I don't know that this was an orchestrated plan by the left. Kaepernick's involvement was orchestrated by his girlfriend and Linda Sarsour, but what made his takedown possible was the preponderance of disaffected blacks in the league. It does not matter how much money they make. Too many blacks have been indoctrinated in the myth that "whitey is keepin' 'em down". No self-respecting American is going to watch a bunch of fools insult them on TV. I know not all blacks are like the NFL and NBA players. Sure, we have Clarence Thomas, Walter Williams, Lloyd Marcus, et al, but they are a small minority. Gone are the days when men like the Tuskegee Airmen fought for the opportunity of fighting and dying for their country.
Tens of thousands of blacks continue to serve in our military, in hellholes around the world. They just aren't covered by the media.

IIRC, majority ownership of the Rams passed to her kids when she died. I think it was the kids who were sold out by the NFL.
This is why I’ve always hated Jerry Jones. This is the whining shallow POS that fired Landry. The only thing Jerry is mad about is that his runningback is being suspended for being an abuser. And the funny part is that all of his fighting of that suspension has screwed the team. If he’d let Eliot be suspended for the first 6 games they would have muddled through, he’d be back on the team and fresh and rested now, and they’d be in position for a playoff run. Instead he forced it to be a distraction the first half of the season, and now they go into the stretch run with him. So now he doesn’t want Goodell renewed and is threatening to sue even though HE voted for the extension too. Jerk.

I think Zeke's suspension will allow Jason Garrett to keep his job...it's a convenient excuse for the masses when the Cowboys don't make the playoffs this year.
Jones is going to lose. Since this is all about Eliot’s suspension, the owners are already comparing him to Kraft. Brady’s suspension last year was full on stupid, but Kraft took it like a man and defended the shield. Eliot’s suspension falls in line with others for similar behavior and Jones is throwing the blocks around threatening to sue over a contract extension he approved. A quick way to lose the backing of other owners is to threaten them.
This has nothing to do with the player protest (which Jones participated in) this is 100% about the Eliot suspension. Which if they hadn’t fought so hard would be over by now and the Cowboys probably would make the playoffs.

Having seen soccer players falling down in pain on the field from someone looking at them, I seriously doubt that the majority of Americans will ever really get behind this third-world 'sport'.
