EU On The Brink: Hundreds of Thousands March in Catalonia Demand Release Of ‘Political Prisoners’
Breitbart ^ | 11/12/17 | Jack Montgomery

Around three-quarters of a million Catalans have marched to demand the release of local politicians arrested for their role in the drive for independence.

Spain’s central government has dissolved the Catalan parliament, dismissed the Catalan government, and imposed direct rule following the region’s unilateral declaration of independence on October 27th.

This followed a self-determination referendum which the Spanish authorities deemed illegal and attempted to shut down violently, with the blessing of the European Union’s ruling bodies.

Carles Puigdemont, Catalonia’s ex-president — or president-in-exile, depending on your point of view — had given some indication that he would ignore Madrid’s attempts to terminate his administration and remain in post, but fled to Brussels, Belgium when the authorities closed in.

Several of those who remained behind have been arrested to face charges of rebellion and sedition, with eight former Catalan government ministers and the leaders of the Catalan National Assembly and Omnium Cultural jailed while investigations continue.

Protestors say the detainees are “political prisoners”, and flooded the Avenue Marina to hear speeches from their family members and demand their release.

Puigdemont himself has been subject to a European Arrest Warrant (EAW), a controversial extradition mechanism which requires EU member-states to hand people over to the countries issuing them with little due process.

Spain’s use of the EAW in this case has been controversial, given it was sold to the public as a means of facilitating the extradition of terror suspects and serious criminals, not political opponents.

“To be treated like a criminal, like a drug trafficker, like a paedophile, like a serial killer, I think this is abuse,” Puigdemont commented from Brussels.

Catalonia has been in flux for centuries. They been ruled by France, and Spain and been a semi-independent autonomous (Republic) region. The basque region is similar, though smaller. I think.

There’s a lot of old grudges going around. Add muzzies into the mix....

Overall, Europe’s been a basket case for a couple of millennia.

It’s inspiration lies in the Cuban flag. That should tell you something about them.

It is the Catalan independence flag.

Well I’m getting mixed messages on that.

Nevertheless, I believe in self determination. If the people of Catalan want out, then it should be granted.

Maybe there’s something you can tell me about Catalan culture. How does it suffer from the rest of Spain?

Well that would be fine as long as the law is followed, and it was not.

What about the Catalan people who don’t want to leave? What have the Catalans who love being Spanish?

The problem in Catalunya is that they have had so much autonomy that it has gone toxic, especially with regard to the anti-Spanish indoctrination doled out in the public schools for nearly four decades.

If the people of Catalan want out, then it should be granted.

That just begs the question. Does the Catalan vote to secede from Spain represent the Will of the People of Catalonia?

Communists teamed up with Qatar money to try to get people to secede. It’s so Catalan can become a marxist hell hole that has open door to moslem invasion. Nothing nice or good about this secession movement so-called.

There were many irregularities and illegalities about the vote, and only about 40% of the voters of Catalan even voted at all, which actually by Spanish constitution, nullified it.

You should know that we have many friends in Spain and all of Europe. They are not as vocal as our detractors and, in many cases, encouraged to shut their mouths with regard to the subject as it’s very unPC. I can attest to this because of many years of personal experience.

The EU believes in “free markets” for big corporate elites and has no belief in traditional values, it opposes Catalan independence.

And you think that the Catalan separatists are somehow in favor of traditional values?
