Democrat Ralph Northam has won Virginia's race for governor.
Early unofficial results show Northam defeated Republican Ed Gillespie on Tuesday.
Virginia's hard-fought race was closely watched as a swing-state test of President Donald Trump's popularity. Northam, a pediatric neurologist and the state's lieutenant governor, repeatedly tried to tie Gillespie to the president during months of divisive campaigning overshadowed by racial overtones and attack ads.
Northam's victory was in large part due to a surge in anti-Trump energy since the president took office. Democrats said they had record levels of enthusiasm heading into the race.
Gillespie kept Trump at a distance throughout the campaign but tried to rally the president's supporters with hard-edge ads focused on illegal immigration and preserving Confederate statues.

At the voting location I went to, there were signs posted on the entrance in 4-5 languages.

So they keep painting every election as a referendum on Trump until they win some?

To all those who think a “real Republican” would have won, forget it - VA is gone. Trump lost VA to Crooked Hillary. It doesn’t matter what kind of candidate you run. DC doesn’t even run Republicans for mayor, and you’re voting against the same kind of people. Maybe one year we’ll catch them snoozing but other than that, not happening.

Gillespie was on the Laura Engals show...she repeatedly brought up Trump. Gillespie totally ignored her questions. Had he embraced Trump he would have won.
I’m glad we didn’t move to Virginia. We decided on the tri-state area, Virginia – Tennessee – North Carolina. We wrote off Virginia and North Carolina because they can’t be trusted how they vote. The big cities override the rural conservative areas. I hate being surrounded by blue states though :-(
GS 13, 14 and 15 in NoVA and MDDCburbs. Too many highly paid apparatchiks and contractors. The swamp needs draining, agencies pruned and jobs eliminated.
It’s the influx of messicans and middle easterners in the last 15 years that has finally added up to over come any large rural and suburb turn out for a conservative.
Yep. And tons of Latin Americans too. Salvadorans, Hondurans, etc. All dreaming about turning the USA into the 3rd world dump holes they escaped from.

A focus of butthurt Hillary voters who claimed that EVERY election since last November was a referendum on Trump’s election.
How much out of state funding was there in this campaign?
How much out of state volunteerism?
Northam is the Governor of NoVa...
