Texas church shooting leaves many dead

At least 27 people have died after a gunman opened fire at a church in Texas during Sunday services.

The attack happened at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs in Wilson County.

A police commissioner at the scene confirmed that at least 27 people had died. Several others are reported to be injured.

The San Antonio FBI branch said its agents had been deployed, and there was no indication of the gunman's motive.

The FBI also said that while only one shooter was reported, it was looking into other possibilities.

Local ABC affiliate KSAT 12 reported the gunman entered the church at around 11:30 local time (17:30 GMT). It also said he had been killed in the aftermath.

Photos and video from the scene showed the area taped off by local law enforcement.

A number of helicopters have arrived to transport the wounded, KSAT 12 reporter Max Massey said.

Texas governor Greg Abbott said: "Our prayers are with all who were harmed by this evil act. Our thanks to law enforcement for their response."

He said more details would be released by the Texas Department of Public Safety shortly.

The guy was a loser. He was a nut. He had a persecution complex and probably dilutional believing the whole church was against him. He should burn in hell forever.

In my state, and many others, you may not carry in church. 2nd ammendment is clear, repeal all firearms laws, nationwide, NOW.

Not in Florida. Also the law would not make a difference were it so except defenders might get prosecuted for saving lives. It is a variation of better to be tried by twelve than carried by six or your friends carried by sixes.

Given my experience, you have NO idea how right you are. Boggles the mind what people put online.

Could someone be behind all these shootings. Trying to ruin Trump’s presidency?

So many demands for self-defense. I don't see much concern or love expressed here for the families, the congregation, the staff, the pastor. Just demands.

Evil has no mercy and evil never rests. There are lots of posters who are praying right now, but as a policy forum we need to be clear-thinking

More folks need to carry ! Many sheriffs and police 👮 keep advising everyone to do this Because the cops can’t arrive in time to protect us ( whether it’s more Dwmn Muslim terrorists or routine domestic criminals)

“Most states make church unlawful to carry”.

And I’d bet Law Enforcement, especially in small communities, look the other way.

You can carry is a church UNLESS the church has proactively placed the signage prohibiting it on their property.
