NFL should be alarmed by Papa John's Rebuke
Yahoo Finance & Yahoo Sports ^ | 11/2 | Charles Robinson

Wednesday was really bad for Goodell because even the happy-go-lucky pizza guy – Mr. Papa John’s himself – publicly turned on the NFL. And he did it with all his stockholders and the larger financial community listening. In an earnings call for investors that would send a cannon ball through the wood panels of every NFL ownership office.

“The NFL has hurt us by not resolving the current [protest] debacle to the players’ and owners’ satisfaction,” said John Schnatter, the Papa John’s CEO who famously appears on the company’s litany of game-day advertisements. “NFL leadership has hurt Papa John’s shareholders. … Leadership starts at the top, and this is an example of poor leadership.”

For sure...

But who eats this kind of pizza? It sucks.

Glad someone has the sense to speak out. Thanks, Papa John’s.

Resolved to “the players and owners satisfaction”. Really?

How about a resolution to the FANS’ satisfaction? Everybody is so tone-deaf that it blows my mind.

Btw-Papa John’s is actually pretty good pizza.

Doesn’t matter who eats it.

Matters that the numbers for the company tanked because of the NFL.

NFL has become a toxic brand. Advertisers will see that as will TV networks and leave for greener pastures.

NFL is flushing a billion dollar+ business down the tubes by letting itself get overrun by SJWs.

The thing is that their pizza sucked just as much last year as it does now. So what’s changed? Or did their customers finally come to realize that what good pizza must taste like?

You beat me to it. I was thinking the same thing. The players and owners are satisfied. It's the fans who are unhappy with the shenanigans.

On the one hand the NFL is blaming everything else but the disrespect for the american flag as the reason for the loss in ratings. On the other hand Papa John’s has a mediocre product and is blaming the NFL for it’s problems.

How about Sun Spots, the Russians, global warming, the muslims, hurricanes, earthquakes, and solar eclipse.

Exactly.

I don’t understand what a ‘resolution’ satisfying to the players could be.

Whatever they are protesting, it doesn’t seem something that the NFL can do anything about.

I ordered a Papa John's pizza for the first time in probably two years last night to support Schnatter.

It was outstanding. The bacon wasn't those little bacon bits that taste like they came out of a jar like most pizzas. These were chunks of thick slab bacon.

UberEATS & numerous other delivery services. Now, if you want food delivered, you don't have to rely on whatever crappy corporate pizza place that delivers. You can get food from just about anywhere. With so many "new" options, the food delivery game has changed considerably.

"But who eats this kind of pizza? It sucks."

Obviously many do eat it and spend millions of dollars a year on it. I think it's pretty average for a franchise pizza joint. Not bad but not great either.

So we’ve established you won’t be selecting the pizza restaurant I go to!

But yes, you’re spot on, on the rest.

I like PJ pizza. He has been vocal about this from pretty early on, so kudos to him for having the courage to speak up and bring more resolve to this issue.

It takes courage to do what PJ has done. In this day and age with such polarization any business walks a very, very fine line and risks alienating half of their customer base. So yeah, hat’s off to PJ pizza for making his stand very public.

Yeah, but the “crust” was probably spongy dough that was an inch thick. Foul.

The rest of the country doesn’t know what real pizza is. Yes, I’m an elitist pizza snob. Deal with it. :)

I wouldn't go so far as to say it sucks per se, it's just that it's not really pizza despite resembling one. The crust is sort of sweet, for one, and that puts me off. But the toppings are usually pretty decent for a delivery chain pizza, and the garlic sauce plus pepperoncini in each box is a nice touch. You could do worse on a delivery "pizza."

They won’t be alarmed, they’ll protest more.

That’s how ignorant they are.
