Gaffes, TV ratings concerns dominated as NFL, players forged anthem peace

After Snyder sat down, Jones stood and left no question that it was his floor. "I'm the ranking owner here," he said.

At first, some in the room admired Jones' pure bravado, the mix of folksy politician and visionary salesman he has perfected. But he was angry. He said the owners had to take the business impact seriously, as the league was threatened by a polarizing issue it couldn't contain or control. To some in the room, it was clear Jones was trying to build momentum for an anthem mandate resolution, and in the words of one owner, "he brought up a lot of fair points." Jones believed he was one of the few showing any urgency on the matter and seemed to be more frustrated that not everybody was listening than he was passionate about the mandate.

As Jones spoke, Snyder mumbled out loud, "See, Jones gets it -- 96 percent of Americans are for guys standing," a claim some dismissed as a grand overstatement. McNair, a multimillion-dollar Trump campaign contributor, spoke next, echoing many of the same business concerns. "We can't have the inmates running the prison," McNair said.

That statement stunned some in the room. Then Kraft, who is close friends with Trump, politely rebuked the hardliners, saying that he supported the league's marketing proposal and predicted the issue would work itself out over time. This argument seemed to find a receptive audience in the room. An unofficial count had only nine owners in favor of a mandate, though the reasons for the opposition varied: Some owners had tired of Jones always commandeering such meetings; some were jealous of his power and eager to see him go down; some saw the players-must-stand mandate as bad policy to invoke in the middle of the season;

Don’t think that most of the owners are patriots. They are not. Like most people who enter the rarified air of world shakers they want acceptance, and are even willing to betray their country if it keeps them on the cocktail circuit.

Hey ESPN...how about some more of your globalist “Mickey Mouse” directed political commentary? That way more of you will be laid off.

Jones is in damage control mode. We all saw him kneeling with the felons. He needs to be reminded it is not a good idea to piss on us and tell us it’s raining.

... Kraft...

The business owners should have set Kraft up with a hooker of color to keep him busy during the meeting.

And, find one that's a higher class escort that wouldn't try to blackmail him afterward.

We need a NFL that looks more like America.

Why is the League 75% black?

Surely there are Latinos and Asians that can contribute as well.

The need to fire the commissioner and take the head office out of New York. Move it to a red state so those running the show live and work near the actual fans of the game.

I am very glad that the Felons are finally throwing off the falseness facade and showing what they really think of America and Americans. I gave up on sports around 1994 because I did not like the direction and attitudes of players and owners in all sports. Selfness, money focused, show-boating, criminal behavior, drugs - nothing there are me.

Typical sports show was not much different than a regular news show - first you have the crime report, then the financial report all about contracts who is making what and who is complaining they should be paid more, weather - when players explained their failures due to weather, then a few minutes of emotionalism and show-boating then scores.

Dirty little secret is that because of concerns over CTE, a lot of parents aren’t allowing their kids to play football, and more are coming to a determination that it isn’t worth the health risks.

ESPN: "... as NFL, players forged anthem peace"

Did I miss something? Why the past tense? What is the peace? They have not attempted to make any kind of peace with the fans at all.

Reading the article now...couple of tidbits:

“Finally, New York Jets linebacker Demario Davis stood up in the center of the room and told owners: “I’m going to break it down for you guys. You guys aren’t supporting us, and until you do, there’s going to be an issue.””

I know Demario Davis and have interacted with him before he was in the league and when he was in the league- he’s a loud mouth who is not well liked by teammates and a black nationalist...

“Davis’ message, and passion, seemed to relieve the tension. Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank later told Davis that he’d “missed his calling” as a great public speaker. “

funny how they point out the owners who are Trump supporters but don’t mention Blank is a far left anti-Trumper...

“The league had scrapped a staff idea to extend an olive branch to Kaepernick — who in October filed a collusion claim against the owners — by inviting him to visit the league headquarters.”

no mention that kapernick was never cut by an NFL team rather he OPTED OUT of his contract in March, basically walking away from his employer, in hopes of a better deal...

“The meeting was going so well that even the unintentionally awkward moments were forgiven. At one point, Buffalo Bills co-owner Terry Pegula, moved by Anquan Boldin’s story about his cousin being shot and killed by a police officer, complimented him on how impressive he was but kept calling him “Antwan.” Then Pegula suggested that Boldin would be the perfect NFL spokesman on social issues not only because he had walked away from the game to pursue causes but because, the owner said, it couldn’t be a “white owner but needs to be someone who’s black.””

1- no backstory as to why the cousin was in an altercation 2- boldin is coming out of retirement to return to the field...

” York and Jeffrey Lurie of the Eagles had emerged as thoughtful leaders. Knowing that many of the players who were still kneeling were on his 49ers, York emphasized that he understood the business concerns and that each market was different, and that he had been talking to his players for a long time and would continue to do so. Lurie had spoken up during the meeting, supporting the players’ right to kneel.”

of course espn would think this- both are left winger and york just had the 49ers donate $500,000 to gun control groups...

“Why is the League 75% black?”

It is 75% black because 75% black are great football players.

There is no diversity on the grid iron.

...nor should there be. ...anywhere.

Sports is the last bastion of pure skill.

What is remarkable, are the black players killing their golden goose.

Choking their own throats.

Jesse Jackson led them to this place.

Peace only in the deluded liberal mind. As it stands, NFL allows them to kneel, while spending NFL dollars championing their liberal causes, which is clearly a short term win-win only for their side. Longer term, which liberals can't comprehend, they will continue to suffer the loss of fans as it percolates further is my guess.

Has anyone noticed that the most important person who pays for all their salaries was absent from the meeting. I think his or her name is J.Q. Public.

Just another bunch of over paid fat asses trying to figure out how to manipulate the people who pay for their crap.

Get rid of antitrust, special tax loop holes and expand the league to 200 teams or more, distribute the wealth and we will not have to put up with this stuff anymore.

Don't think that most of the owners are patriots

But they are billionaire businessmen. You'd think they'd want to protect their asset. I'm assuming they're looking at how much they are spending on those black racists, and figuring that the NFL will come back in a few years.

They've put themselves in a lose-lose situation. Kaepernik should've been stopped for his antics last year.

Only the best should be employed at any job..

they have had 40 years and are worse of now

Skin color and gender should make no difference..

I was working construction in 1970...state job hospital..

just started affirmative action...

Not many blacks in the construction trades..

The Black guy from the state wanted so many jobs...

Superintendent told him they had to become apprentices and do it like everybody had done it..

Well that did not go over very well...

We got a few new apprentices..two out of five made it til the end of the job..and one kid did become a journeymen carpenter
