It adds credence to what I was saying: “Getting rid of the deduction will put pressure on these states to LOWER their taxes.”

Kansas next door cut their taxes six or seven years ago with the usual promise that it will bring jobs and actually raise revenue. The result has been six straight years of revenue not coming close to projections and cuts to roads, schools, public safety, Medicaid, and everything else that could be cut. Last election the conservatives in the legislature lost in a landslide and something like 20 or 25 of the tax cut supporters were primaried or lost in the general.

That's the universe we live in. Your article is talking about the same kind of cuts that Kansas went through. And it will probably result in the same outcome - Republican losses in the legislature and governorships. Is that what you're looking for?

I do understand your comments about Kansas. I really do.

Nonetheless, my statement “Getting rid of the deduction will put pressure on these states to LOWER their taxes” is most likely true.

States with high state/local taxes will feel pressure to lower their taxes from their residents. In the end, the residents will get to decide, do they want lower taxes (with cuts to services) or do they want higher taxes (with more services).

The people of Kansas voted out “tax cut supporters”. It is their right. In doing so, they can have higher taxes with more services if they want them. Each state gets to decide.

Probably, as long as the people in the state don't want their roads maintained, their schools funded, their state police and prisons funded, and great grandma's retirement home paid for.

NO, it is not “this” budget.

The budget voted on is a non-binding congressional resolution that is not law and doesn’t need to be signed by the president.

Martin Feldstein was on CNBC today and made the same point regarding high tax states (at time 2:30-3:49): https://www.cnbc.com/video/2017/11/17/santelli-exchange-feldstein-on-tax-reform.html

In Texas, we are a relatively low tax state and we have Roads, Schools, State Police and Prisons.

Not sure about Great Grandma’s retirement home, though. I’m kind of against government providing homes for people. Medicare may pay for a nursing home if Great Grandma paid into the system during her working years. But this is beyond my knowledge.

And an oil and gas industry that provides a lot in the way of production taxes. Not all states are that fortunate.

Medicare does not cover nursing home care. Medicaid does.

Thank you, this is what I am referring to ... tho this appears to be regarding the DECEMBER spending bill, I think good to keep an eye on Ryan regardless! Was not sure what was meant by the term "whole ball of wax" in the article, which concerns me. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/paul-ryan-daca-omnibus-conservatives_us_59efd21ce4b0b7e63265bb76 Paul Ryan Tells Conservatives DACA Will Be Part Of Spending Deal House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) privately conceded to a group of House conservatives on Tuesday that he plans to include a legislative fix for undocumented immigrants who came to the United States as children in a year-end spending deal. Asked if he envisioned a December omnibus spending bill including Cost Sharing Reductions for Obamacare or some sort of solution for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, Ryan told leaders of the Republican Study Committee that he didn’t believe CSR payments would be part of the deal with Democrats, but that DACA would. “He did talk about the fact that that would be good if we could get ahead of that as opposed to being reactionary,” RSC Chairman Mark Walker (R-N.C.) told HuffPost Tuesday night. When HuffPost asked Walker if Ryan had said Republicans didn’t have the votes to do something on DACA alone, and therefore needed Democratic support, Walker said, “It wasn’t as clear cut as that ― and it rarely is, actually ― but he did make reference that [DACA provisions] would be something that might be part of the whole ball of wax.”

“The fact that 20 Rs voted against the budget is disappointing.”

Yep, and I don’t care what the 20 Republicans cares were.

We do need to be suspicious of Ryan trying to sneak DACA into the appropriation bills at the end of the year.

There will likely be an omnibus spending bill (packages many of the smaller regular appropriations bills into one larger single bill that could be passed with only one vote in each house).

President Trump must demand funding for the Wall and no DACA at the end of the year.

Immigration is changing this country. I’m discouraged by the whole thing. Democratic politicians want immigration so they can import new Democratic voters. Republican politicians want immigration to appease big corporations. They want immigration so they can pay lower wages.

Big corporations are NOT a friend of rank and file Republican voters.
