In a stunning announcement with huge repercussions for the future of the Texas House and Republican Party politics in Texas, House speaker Joe Straus, R-San Antonio, announced Wednesday morning that he won’t run for re-election.

Great news, but I would not count on it. The Chamber, big corporate and other swamp orgs will simply put more money into the D’s. Straus himself is just as likely to become the anti-Bannon as not. There is lots of work to be done.

Is it a planned action? Watched the news last night. 2020 Presidential planning? Flake is young enough and “pretty” enough, don’t know about Strauss (but a skilled politician and advisor?). At any rate bowing out this early gives Strauss time to plan and make contacts outside the state.
Anyone have any guesses or other thoughts?
