The National Parks Service (NPS) is proposing a fee hike during peak periods of visitation for select parks to help pay for $11.3 billion worth of needed maintenance.
The hike would apply to 17 parks during their busiest five consecutive months of the year, and it would raise NPS revenue by an estimated $70 million per year. During peak visitation periods, selected parks would cost $70 for a car or truck, $50 for a motorcycle, or $30 for a person on bike or foot, according to an NPS press release.

My Senior Pass guaranteed us ‘free’ admission to Mt Rushmore, but we paid $15 to park. So, they still get revenue off Seniors. Non-seniors have to pay entrance AND parking fees, AFAICT.
I’m out in the boonies, National Forests around Mount Rainier frequently. I’m thinking with a major price hike for the national park I’m going to start having more company out there
Just went to $80. Still...it is a steal.
There should be a two-tier system for Americans and foreign tourists with the foreigners paying twice as much.
$15 to park? Elder abuse. Limited income etc.
That was my first thought, too. Glad I visited some years ago because at those prices, they can forget ever seeing this face at the gate.
Well, I was close. I will chalk it up to a senior moment!
Probably going to go into the extra overtime fund for the next government shutdown.
They lost allot of support when they were preventing vets from going to the monuments.

The new senior pass now costs $80. Seniors may buy an annual pass for $20. and if they save their old receipts, after 4 years they may turn them in for a lifetime senior pass.
The regular adult cost to enter some of the parks is now $30 and will be going up. That amount pretty much excludes people on a limited budget. As it is now, I see (and hear) many foreign tourists in the parks but see few, if any, blacks.
I was camping in the Rockies this past summer. The National park pass for seniors increased as of Aug 28, 2017 ($10 to $80).
