A math education professor at the University of Illinois argued in a newly published book that algebraic and geometry skills perpetuate “unearned privilege” among whites.
Rochelle Gutierrez, a professor at the University of Illinois, made the claim in a new anthology for math teachers, arguing that teachers must be aware of the “politics that mathematics brings” in society.

Wow. Yes, as some if not many on this thread have stated, this the dumbest thing we’ve read in a long time.
But, having had a couple of years of calculus and another year or two complex algebra, I have to work hard to fight off the belief that I’m actually superior in some way.
I’m winning that fight but just barely.

What about calculus? Group Theory?
It’s a whole number. I just know that for sure. I can just tell. Also it has to be bigger than 4 - that’s from observation. And my gut feel is that it’s less than 6.

One of the more obvious attempts to undermine Western culture, capitalism, excellence, and all associated with merit based outcome.
The beauty of mathematics is that it is true a priori. Math IS objective truth, pure logic, nested in symbolism that we apply to understand the world around us. All persons of all races and cultures can use and understand math once they grasp the concepts. This woman’s assertion that all knowledge, even mathematics, is subjective is the road to madness.

If you don’t, won’t or can’t master algebra, chances are you will be working for someone who has mastered algebra.
The lower your IQ, the less your mind will be able to process the abstraction involved in algebra - and most other high-level understanding associated with success.
Subjectively, algebra points to smarts. Objectively, it points to a higher IQ, higher achievement in business, and higher income on average than those who do not have the capacity to manipulate abstract concepts.
There is no doubt that this professor has a job based on subjective criteria, and not actual achievement in any field.
“professor” was the term used in the 20’s for the guy who played the piano in a whore house, hence: play it again Sam.
When I was a lad, someone called my doctor “professor” one time in general conversation. (My doc had been a major in Patton’s medical corps in N. Africa.) Anyway, he damn near jumped down the guys throat saying: don’t ever call me professor. That was how I learned about the other use of the term.
Remember the Pythagorean Theorem? Pythagoras was black.
I don’t know squat about math, but I self-identify as a mathematical genius, so I’m good to go.
